I just want to repeat! Waste of taxpayer money if they turn people down and don't even FILL the seats that are paid for and just empty!

A child is a child. IMO. I was told public "free" pre-K was for "at risk" 4 year olds only. At risk for what???? I asked....and it was clarified for me. "At risk 4 year olds probably have parents who work, and don't have a single book in the home for their age and don't have parents who teach them."

Er ok. Again I say a kid is a kid, either put interested kids in the program or let the tax payer money go to waste.

Is that the same as headstart? I make more than that, and when I went to fill out info, they didn't say anything about not qualifying

Hello!

Is your son in day care now?

If so, sometimes the day care or preschool staff can be very knowledgeable and of good assistance as well in your search for pre-K and Kindergarten programs.

Just a thought...good luck!

Do they offer the More4Four program here? We were in Rutherford County when my son was 4. I moved up here without my husband(he came up later) so I qualified without him. I am not sure what the qualifications were. It was a public school program. They used the schools and had classes in the schools until the schools were full, then they utilized certain daycares. My son ended up going to a daycare instead of one of the elementary schools. He had an excellent education. He was ready for kindergarten by December. He knew all of the requirements, plus more. His teacher was excellent.

My 4 year old nephew goes to daycare at at church 3 times a week and they teach him preschool there. My brother pays for him to go there but its a very small fee compared to regular daycare or private preschool. You could start calling different churches in your area to find out if any of them do something similar.

You're from Oakland - are you in Oakland, or Charlotte? This is the Charlotte, NC discussion board.

Have you contacted the United Way? They'll be able to give you information about agencies that can help you out. In most places, you can reach them by dialing 2-1-1.

Montessori programs in CMS are outstanding, especially Park Road Montessori. However, they are almost impossible to get into for K or later. Try the lottery for pre-k and you might get lucky! There is a fee, but it is minimul and they do provide busing, I believe.
