Catawba and surrounding counties
Hi everyone I am considering taking a job in either Hickory, or somewhere in Lincoln County. I am wondering if anyone can give me some information on both Lincoln and Catawba counties in terms of which is nicer as far as schools, low crime home prices etc. I would like to live as close to Charlotte as possible. I am just starting to learn the area. Are there any surrounding counties that are better than others? How far is Catawba and Lincoln from Mecklenber County? Any information would be very helpful thanks.

Any particular reason you don't want to live in Hickory/Catawba County? Lots of nice neighborhoods and schools in that area.

I don't necessarily want to live in Hickory. I am considering taking a job there and I am wondering how far it would be from Charlotte. I actually really want to live in Charlotte but I am wondering what other surrounding areas are nice and close by. Do you know how far a commute it would be from Charlotte to Hickory or somewhere in Catawba?

Yep. From where I am - in S. Charlotte off Carmel, inside 51 - it takes me almost exactly 1 hour and 10 minutes to get from my house to the intersection of 321 N and Old Lenoir Highway. I use 485 to 85 to 321.
Timing the distance from areas in Lincoln County and other communities closer to Charlotte, such as Belmont would probably be very helpful. You can definitely find places to live that would keep that commute under 45 minutes, I would think.

I live in Lincoln County, in the Pumpkin Center area. It is between Lincolnton and Denver. It is very rural. We moved here because the schools have a very good reputation. (Pumpkin Center Elementary and North Lincoln High and North Lincoln Middle School) If you are looking for something more suburban with lots of shopping and places to eat Mooresville is probably less then an hour. Where I live it is about 30 minutes to Hickory, Gastonia and Mooresville and 45 minutes to Charlotte. I have only been here 10 months but would be glad to help you if I can.

We are in Sherrills Ford (Catawba County), off HWY 16 and HWY 150 area. I go to Charlotte-Douglas Airport once a week and it takes me 34 minutes.
Takes me 8 minutes to get to Mooresville (Target/Wal-mart areas).
Takes me 20 minutes to get into downtown Hickory.

We live in Fort Mill and I'm from Maiden. Takes about an hour. Very small town in Catawba County.
