Transferring to Charlotte
Hi All -
My son is looking at coming down to the JWU campus, but getting an apartment and living off campus. Any suggestions on area's to look that has affordable housing in a safe area? Reading some of the entries, I'm a little concerned on how to find the right location.
We will be coming to Charlotte soon to check out the city / campus - any recommendations for a quick stay? It will be a quick trip - only a couple of days to make a decision.
I would appreciate any info...

The problem is, Johnson and Wales is in the heart of uptown - not a cheap place to live by any means. If he doesn't mind an apartment without air conditioning there are a few great older ones to be had in the Elizabeth neighborhood right at the edge of uptown to the east for under $600.00 Personally I would stay away from renting anything west of uptown (the side of uptown the campus is on) OR north of uptown. I'll see if I can find any links to places currently for rent for you to look at online

Student areas?
Thank you for the info... Is there areas that university students tend to gravitate to? I believe there is a 'university area' that is more north east of the city? It would require commuting to the school - I'm thinking of the socialization side of being in a new city.

You are thinking of UNC-Charlotte, it is in the "University" area.
As a student of J&W, I would think he would want to be closer to uptown with the other J&W students. Queens University is in Myers Park, so there are lots of young people living in ELizabeth, Dilworth & Uptown. Those are really the more interesting areas of the city for a young person in my opinion. Also NODA (North of Davidson) is great & funky for a young person.
Please feel free to ask any of our opinions on a particular property you might find- we will let you know if it is safe & convenient for him Good luck!

Thanks for all your help. Looking online, he has taken a liking to the Pineville area. He wants a small apartment to share with his girlfriend. Is not as interested as I was in keeping him near other JWU students. He's been online with other JWU students, and they have either recommended south of Charlotte, or University area. He's specifically looked at the Pines at Charlotte Place, Sabal Point or Waterford Square Apartments. Does anyone know about this area / agency's?

Thanks BKQC - knew there had to be a good reason for that low price, thanks for the info!
