Charlotte Observer $ increase
I must have been asleep when the price increase for the Charlotte Obsever ($2, Sunday edition) was announced. Total sticker shock today - . I imagine the daily increased too.
I'm sure like other industries the cost of business is increasing however, seems like an odd decision since I know I've read about a steady decrease in subscribers/readers. Won't this only lead to more people unsubscribing/foregoing the print for the online edition?
I don't have a business degree so I'm sure I just don't "get it" but I'm struggling with how this will improve their lot ...

Still seems like a bargain to me.
And apparently this is their first weekday increase in 18 years, first Sunday increase in 14 years. Hardly seems unreasonable.

I had heard about the increase earlier in the week..
Actually did NOT buy a paper yesterday for the 1st time in...???
Might as well get ready to add Charlotte Observer to list of banckrupt newspapers..
This paper stinks anyways...usually only 4 pages for sports...cmon...
if you had a better paper, you'd sell more papers, increase advertising and blammo...profit...

I have to agree with THESTEM. The paper is really bad. I cancelled my subscription last month and now only buy the sunday at the corner store, and that is only for the coupons for my wife. She picked it up yesterday, I will have to ask her if the price went up.

It went to $2 on Sunday. Its the only day of the week I buy it due to coupons....
Regarding if its a quality paper, the comments here speak for themselves....

and to boot - you can't even get a "sunday only" subscription here...
I know other places I've lived that was one of the choices...
I hope these papers dont get "bailouts"

I believe the other days are $.75.
Also, stamps going up $.02 today, so if you didn't buy the forever stamp you'll need some 2 centers.

CLT OBS is struggling and no wonder. I won't subscribe - only subscribed for a matter of weeks after we moved back here. Had I been subscribing, I would have canceled my subscription when they decided to outsource their layout to India and laid off their graphic artists, fired a bunch of reporters, putting people out of work. A newspaper should support the community from wh/ they expect THEIR advertising and readership support. Last time I checked, India wasn't located in Charlotte, so the CLT OBS is verboten at my house.

My wife and I do Fri-Sat-Sun at $2.50/week. We just use it for the coupons on Sunday really. Easier for us to pay the $2/month extra and have the Sunday paper delivered than to go to the store every Sunday to pick up a copy.
