Now if some nutcase chick wants to stalk me in a green Borat junk holder, by all means go right ahead.
But realistically, rape is about power, control and hate. Very rarely is it about uncontrolable sexual urges/sexuality.

Sure there's always that very rare percentage.

I don't know what the statistics are, but I'd love to see what the stats show on men who rape women. After they've been treated to an extensive preview of the woman's body by means of skimpy bikinis....thongs....g-strings....or even a low cut blouse revealing lots of breasts.

If I remember correctly, the last time I read some statistics on Rape, they showed that a large majority of rapes occur where the rapist has no prior familiarity or visual/physical contact with the victim.

And if overly sexualized women are inappropriate in the workplace . . . I think that would translate to any family venue, as well.
This is why god gave us broom closets at the office.

It seems to me the main theme here against a thong, is that other women would be furious with jealousy.

At which point, all you women at the community pool could just mock her and degrade her into some kind of eating disorder.

Then you all could be fully satisfied with yourselves.

excerpt:

The broader purpose of the research was to explore circumstances under which people treat one another as the means to an end, Fiske said.

Past studies have also shown that when men view images of highly sexualized women, and then interact with a woman in a separate setting, they are more likely to have sexual words on their minds, she said. They are also more likely to remember the woman's physical appearance, and sit closer to her -- for instance, at a job interview.

Taken together, the research suggests that viewing certain images is not appropriate in the workplace, Fiske said.

Or we could just teach our children from the beginning (by setting an example ourselves and by verbal teaching), to not perceive women that way.

It's one thing to appreciate the female form and be enhtusiastic about it.

Objectification, is an entirely different thing.

Our children are what we teach them by examples set ...what we do, how we act. And what we say.

I had my day. I wore a black leather bikini at the beach when I was 19, young and hot. It was essentially four triangles held together w/ gold hoops, LOL. But I never showed up at a community pool or country club in it. Had I, I can promise you I would not have been invited to events w/ other young women who would have considered such a thing a big breach in etiquette - and who wore their versions of that same bikini WHILE AT THE BEACH.

There is a time and place for everything. The time and place for thongs may be your backyard, the beach, the Caribbean - whatever. But it sho nuff ain't at the family-centered neighborhood pool.
I had a childhood sweetheart from Germany. We went to Suttle's mudpuddle (swimming pool) and she was kicked out for wearing a bikini. Now, that was a few years ago. But then I had my litte private riviera on Mountain Island Lake. Sorry, had a flashback. What were we talking about. Last thin I remember was someone mentioning a black leather bikini and it all went to hell.

Gosh, that was such a well thought out, reasonable, spot on comment that you have left me completely speechless.

Yes, let's all feel sorry for the poor, victimized Thong Girl because the thirty other women at the community pool are all so fat, unattractive and prudish that they are threatened by a chickie in a thong. Let's assume that everyone else in the entire community can't touch her in the attractiveness department and that they will immediately separate into herds of masticating wildebeests to plot the downfall of attractive women everywhere. Poor Thong Girl, seeing this, immediately begins to binge and purge. Her hair falls out, she develops acne, loses all the curves that made wearing a thong so appealing to begin with and stops going to the pool. Peace is restored. The earth breathes a sigh of relief. The wildebeest herd settles into their peaceful grazing patterns once again while wearing self satisfied expressions. I see nothing wrong with that picture.

Either that, or you've never watched Seinfeld. " The Library " .....episode.

Sometimes tounge-in-cheek fails to manifest itself, on internet forums.

Exactly. Totally agree with you.

It is w/ these things in mind that I remain quite adamant that creating a sexually charged situation at a swimming pool - b/c one of the mommies decides her mission in life is to strut her stuff in a provocative way - is definitely NOT going to promote what we wish to teach our sons.

How mommy and daddy interact at home is the foundation for teaching respectful relationships. But that doesn't mean what children are exposed to in public will have no effect on how they internalize their own sexual feelings and self-identity.
