Default My husband got the job in Charlotte!

I posted last week about a potential job offer that my husband was waiting to hear about. Well, he was offered the job yesterday and he accepted it this morning. So it looks like we're coming to NC next week! We're trying to figure out which is the best way to handle the move -- doing it ourselves with a U-Haul or hiring movers. We're most likely going to put most of our things in storage and bring just the basics to a short term rental for now.

I'm not planning on moving down to NC until I get a teaching position, so that means that I may not move down permanently for a year -- it all depends on when I find a new position.

So anyway, I got some helpful advice when I posted last week and I wanted to give an update. Thank you everyone!

Congrats, Zoe! I just had a feeling this was gonna happen! I would highly suggest just bringing a UHaul (well, I prefer Penske) w/ the basics and then moving everything later so you dont have to put things in storage. That is what we did - just brought stuff for the townhouse while hubby was here and I was back in Kansas. Then we had professionals move all the rest of the stuff when we sold the house.

I sure hope things work out so it all goes smoothly for you with finding a job! Let us know how we can help along the way.

Congratulations Zoe.

Let us know if you found temporary housing for your husband, or if we can be of more help.

Thank you Zatol, Ani, and Belmarin!

We have a condo to sell, but until we can do that (which won't be for a while), we're going to rent it out. Of course, all of this has happened so quickly, and we don't have renters yet -- we don't even have it posted or listed. My parents live close by, so I'm going to move in with them for the time being. I might only stay a month or so if I get a job down in NC, or I'll spend the next school year with them. Fun, fun!

Right now, we're packing up most things, and they'll go with us in a U-Haul (or Penske, etc.) to NC. We're going to put most things in storage and leave the basics out for my husband to use. We figure that it all has to go to NC at some point, so why not get as much of it as we can down there now. We're still pricing U-Hauls and professional movers, as well as storage units.

What can you tell me about Camden properties? There are a few that we're looking into renting for the short term. They do 1-12 month leases. The recruiter that got my husband his new job is going to drive through a few of the complexes and let him know which one(s) he'd recommend. Right now, we just want something safe and afforable. Paying our mortgage and a rental property isn't going to be easy, so we need something down there to be as inexpensive as possible.

We didn't even know that this opportunity existed a month ago, and now we're planning on packing and relocating in a week. Oy! My stomach's in knots!

Thanks again for all your help!

When the wife and I moved to NC we packed our own Uhaul (took 8 hours) and paid to have it unpacked (took 2 hours). It was cold up in Maryland at the time. The next time we move we'll hire someone to pack the truck for us. I actually drove the Uhual down here with my car in tow. I would recommend paying someone to help you pack up the Uhaul unless you have a bunch of people to help out. We moved mid-week so we didnt have any help.

I live in a Camden community. I live in Camden Park Commons. Its on E W.T. Harris Blvd near Albemarle. The buildings are nice. But its an apartment. You have people driving through playing their music loud in the car at 11pm at night. We like to sleep with the windows open so we hear it pretty good. Its not as bad if you have your windows closed. Its inexpensive. We signed a 9 month lease. Just an FYI, they let use know that if we moved out early we wouldnt have to pay all the remaining montsh rent. Check on that though they may have changed their rules. We were told that if we moved out 3 months early we would only have to pay 1.5 months rent. We are in the process of having a house built but its will take atleast 90 days to build. So we are having to move to Month to Month which we haven't talked to them about. We have not heard of any break-ins in our complex.

There is another Camden property around the corner from us. Its a little further down Albemarle Rd. We picked the complex that we live in now because it included a washer and dryer. The other complex did not. The rent was only about $20 more a month. We figured we saved money by not having to rent a washer and dryer. We are also forced to pay $40 a month for basic cable with HBO and $20 a month for Trash pickup. You put your trash outside your door and someone picks it up. You can't get out of any of these fee's. I am not sure if its like this at any of the other communities.

There are Camden properties in nicer areas. We would have picked the University Area if we could turn back the clock. But luckily,we have not had any major problems.

DM me if you have any questions.

Are you looking at Camden Pinehurst in South Charlotte? I have heard that is a decent place to live. The only problem would be traffic but that is gonna be a problem at many places. I don't know what the rent is that you all are looking at paying at Camden, but I would also check Strawberry Hill wh/ is near Camden Pinehurst.

I looked at the Camden property in Ballantyne Commons Pkwy and felt it was a little old and dated. Cheswyck at Ballantyne Commons was much better. I'm sorry I did not read your prior posts and wasn't sure what area your hubby was looking into, but congratulations nonetheless, and welcome to Charlotte!

Do you know about rent at Cheswyck? I have no idea about their range. OP needs something no higher than $700 month. Does Cheswyck have studios? That could be a good solution - finding a studio.
