skip Jersey Girl Bakery! Went into the Matthews shop once and left with stale bakery items. Went back and they would not exchange it, saying something about health restrictions since I left the store already.

LauraZ is on a distinguished road
I agree with all the negative opinions expressed here about Jersey Girl Bakery. ALL of them. I don't get why they haven't gone out of business after the first one. If they open ANOTHER one in Ballantyne, I'll have to think the influx there is NOT from the north. There most certainly is a dearth of even DECENT bakeries here. By the way.. I've had those sticky buns from Jersey Girl. All I can say is kdjfa; jfkdjfh sldkjsdlfd. What? You didn't understand what I said? That's because my mouth was so dry just thinking about how awful and awfully dry they were when I tried it. I'll stick to the chocolate cake for dessert at Mickey and Mooch. Yummmm.

What I want to know is....WHO PATRONIZES THESE HORRIBLE PLACES? I'm not just talking about Jersey Girl. There are a lot of places out there that are in business and the food is terrible and overpriced, the service stinks and the lines are out the door!!!

I've heard from poeple that "They must not know better" to realize that the place that they're patronizing is bad.

I know everyone has said at least once. "If I had the $$ I would open an outstanding _______" and I could become rich. I wish more people would act on it.

Excellent questions.

I know Dunkin Donuts and Taco Bell left the UK long ago after terrible sales. Just couldn't justify a UK presence anymore, no matter how many American expat letters begging them to open a Taco Bell again.

If people stop patronising, these places will go away. Sooner the better.

Sometimes I think people are afraid of non chain places. I really agree with the poster who encouraged everyone here to frequent mom and pop places, where 'the owner's daughter comes out and draws with crayons with my daughter' type of place. Those are the places we should be patronising, NOT chains.

I'm in NJ for Easter and I have to say, I didn't realize how much I missed good bread and pastries. Now, don't get me wrong, I love living in NC-wouldn't ever come back. BUT, I went to my local market and was like a kid in a candy store. Seriously. I walked around staring and sniffing. I could have polished off an entire loaf of Semolina. Homemade pasta! Fresh Mozzarella (still warm)! Real Italian sausage! **sigh**

I think I'm going to take a cooler of goodies home. Dinner party at my house!!

Hey stmaarten!
I took a break for quite a few weeks.
Not to make you jealous, but I just had Vidalia onion focaccia with fresh mozzarella and some awesome pastries from Wegmans.

Still, I'm aching to get back to the warmth and kindness of the South!

I'd gladly bring you some bagels if I knew how to get them to ya! I'll have a freezer full-no lie.

Good to "see" you!!

Wegmans???? I thought you were visiting back in Jersey? Where do they have Wegmans in NJ? Geez! Have I been missing out all these years???
That Vidalia focaccia w/mozz sounds delicious!
Unfortunately no warmth here in Charlotte tomorrow, but lots of kindness.
Let us know when you get back! Have a safe trip!

Thanks for thinking of me, I'll let you know when I arrive, bagels in cooler.
