I saw an article about them recently - a newcomer was looking for "shad roe" and the owner of What's Your Beef said that he wasn't a "fish" market, but he was making a practice of special ordering items that newcomers were looking for if enough of them wanted to order at once. Maybe a good tip for those of you looking for something from back home.

I've been there and like it alot. It's a husband and wife originally from NYC that moved down to Florida for a while and then ended up in Cornelius. Excellent breads and cheesecake. Cookies are good too. I go there a few times / month.

I've been in What's Your Beef and wasn't impressed. The meat in his case had some age on it, and his sausage that he made on site and let me try some of it was horrible. I'm in the food industry now and am used to high quality meats and remember the good ol days of Butcher Shops in NY and this just isn't one. But, much like Jersey Girl, people will patronize crappy places and they'll do well. I'll go to the Peach Stand for now...

Thanks for the suggestion

I was going to mention the Peach Stand. From what I've heard, it's the best in the area for meats and has pretty good sandwiches as well. I haven't tried it yet, though. Luckily, our new house in Fort Mill will be about a 1/2 mile down the road.

Not only have I found a great pizza place, but it's also a great bakery! Have you tried Palone's Pizza? They have excellent pastries! So far I have tried their cannoli's (and there cream is homemade!) and their Palone's cheesecake is the best cheesecake that I have had. I'm a New Yorker and have been living in Charlotte for almost five years, so thank you Palone's for finally opening!!!!!!

How funny you should mention that! I was driving all over Johnson Road yesterday, looking for that place. Is it after the Red Robin, coming from the Ballantyne area? I gave up when my kids were nagging me about being too hungry to drive any further. So we went to Salsarita's. We really liked their Nachos.

It's at the intersection of Ardrey Kell & Tom Short Rd (Turn left on Ardrey Kell from Rea Rd. towards Providence). The shopping center is called the Fountains. There's a Quiznos & an Irish Pub called O'Shea's there.
