I just moved to Charlotte, from New York. I'm an elementary school teacher with a supplementary license in ESL.I have a master. I'm a little scared about the job market. I would like to teach here, I taught in NY for 3 years. Any sugestions?

Default Charlotte School System Lay-offs

The Charlotte School system is laying off teachers so I would imagine finding a teaching job in a public school will be difficult.

I don't live in the Charlotte area but my wife has a masters degree and she got a job at a local community college as an adjunct professor teaching math. I assume your masters is in education? Maybe there is something at the local community colleges there?

But to be more accurate, they are laying off only certain types of teachers, in addition to quite a few vice principals. Math, science and ESL teachers won't be laid off. And most of the layoffs are in the elementary level, not middle or high school.

Is your MA in ESL or is your ESL supplemental only? They are a bit picky here about what credentials you can get transferred. A friend with an ESL supplemental was not able to teach ESL here.
