Need help desparately
Can anyone please give me the name of a vet who will help me this morning? My 20 year old cat is struggling and we know she needs to be put down. Her decline started late yesterday afternoon and watching her suffer is excruiating. Our current vet, who we've had our 3 cats with for years wants $128.50 to put her to sleep!
As most of you regulars know, my husband has been out of work for 11 months now. I tried explaining that to the vet's office but got no sympathy and a just a polite "we're sorry". We were just hoping they'd maybe cut the fee in half since we've been long time patient's and frankly, I'm shocked that they wouldn't do anything to help us.
Is there anyone here who has a vet connection of some kind, or any suggestion to help us?? PLEASE, let me know.
Thanks guys.

I don't have any specific recommendation (other than the vet we use for our pup, but nothing tells me that they'd lower their fees either)...other than to try a more rural vet. In my opinion, they tend to be much lower prices and arguably more interested in helping animals than billing owners, if that makes sense. I'd try something in Cabarrus County or maybe Gaston and Lincoln. A true vet would be concerned for the well-being of the animal and not collecting the fees. Maybe at best someone could defer the cost to you...or bill you over a couple months.

I'm guessing the place I took my cat around Poplar is too far for you but I trust them implicitly.

Thank you so much for your notes and suggestions.
Someone has suggested a doctor who may be willing to help me - I am waiting for a call back and I'll keep you posted. Been up all night with her and I'm just so sad

It's a bit of a shock to not help you in some way since you've been going there for a long time. It's more of a shock when you couple that with a suffering pet.

It just breaks my heart to hear about your beloved cat Loves. It it angers me even more to think that your vet, someone you've been going to for years, would not be willing to work something out with you. Did they even offer you a payment plan? I can't believe they would allow an animal to suffer like that & not try to work something out with you. I bet if you spoke with the vet directly, (and not the office staff) they might have done something. Sounds like you'll be looking for another vet soon.
So sorry to hear you're going through this. {{BxRosie}}

I am so so sorry to hear this, Loves. I don't have the name of a Vet, but my next door neighbor had to put down her beloved doggie a few years ago and they found a doc in Ft. Mill who was about 1/2 of their usual Vet here in S. Charlotte. They liked him so much, they switched to him - but I don't remember his name. However, it makes me feel that Vets may charge less in more rural areas, as Metallisteve suggested.
Again, my thoughts are with you.
