We were hoping to relocate to Huntersville area this summer however the job opportunities that were offered last year are gone in the school systems!! I noticed from the papers and family there that Mecklenberg is having serious educational problems. I was wondering how the other counties are doing in regards to educating the students and providing the best educational opportunities for their students.
Is there any hopes that educational jobs will return next year?
The attendance reports around the second week in Sept. 09 will be the ultimate test as to whether there will be more layoffs or a small hiring increase. My guess is more layoffs after seeing the projected numbers. The students are here, but the county and state budget is not large enough to support the numbers present at this point.
In Union County, past Commissioners have touted that residential growth pays for itself. We are about to see the error of that thinking. Current Commissioners are stuck with the BS of the past Commissioners that were in the pocket of developers. They may have to raise taxes to continue to give the level of service we have become accustom too. Either raise taxes or cut personnel and services.
We have finally elected a majority of commissioners that actually think of the whole county population when making decisions, but we may have elected them too late to fix things without the taxpayers getting stuck with the big bills coming due.
There are some job openings listed on the websites of the counties surrounding Mecklenburg. Some of it depends on a teacher's certification area; there always seem to be jobs for math and ec teachers. The Charlotte area news programs are talking about the possibility of hundreds of teachers in CMS losing their jobs....time will tell.
