Default Has anyone stayed at the Westin in Uptown?

My brother and a few of his friends are coming down from Ohio over the July 4th weekend, and we all want to stay Uptown to avoid driving after going out...it's for his batchelor party as I told him I can't get up to Ohio two weekends out 3, it's too much for me...anyways, I told him I'd take care of the hotel and one night of partying and they accepted...anyways, Hotels.com has a great deal on rooms for that weekend at $80 a night for rooms w/ 2 beds...on Westin's website, they are listed at $139/night, so I know it's a good deal...just wondering what anyone thinks of the hotel...I know its a bit off on the south edge of Uptown, but it won't be too far to walk up to the Epicentre and whatnot...just looking to hear about it's quality. I know I've always liked that building, it's very unique compared to the rest of the skyline.

The Westin Uptown is a great hotel! We stayed there around Christmas, and it was fabulous. Plenty close to the Epicentre (we walked home easily), and very nice inside. If you get up high enough and are on the correct side of the building (we lucked out), you get an awesome close-up view of the rest of Uptown. I think the Washington Wizards were staying there, too, while we were there; they must've been playing the Bobcats.

This is one of the nicest places to stay uptown - and that rate sounds like a real deal

I concur. I have stayed here following a christmas party and it was very nice and worth the money. Walk to any of the bars uptown and 5 minute stumble to Uptown Cabaret!

Plus you should have a great view of the fireworks from the westin (if you get the right side).

Where do they do the fireworks at here? I've actually never been in town over 4th of July...normally I'm down in Charleston, and a couple years ago, I visited friends in Boston. I'm assuming the fireworks here aren't as good as the fireworks w/ the Boston Pops?

No, you can't expect the kind of show you'd see in Boston But they're really not bad here at all. They shoot them off from a rooftop in uptown pointed toward Memorial Stadium (where folks gather to watch).

I agree. That place is hoppin'! I remember the first time I was in there I commented that the lobby reminded me of an airport. It's so huge and with so much going on- people were surely hanging out in the lobby to be "seen". The last time I booked rooms there for out-of-towners, they were in the $300 range. You've found a steal!
