What kinds of skills are you looking for in a paralegal? Anything specific that you may see on a resume that makes you want to hire someone?

Anything that would cause you to pass immediately?

Finally, where is it I can find openings without an "in" at the firm? Craigslist seems to be more fake listings than anything. I know openings exist, as some of my acquaintances have found them, I just do not know where to find them.

It depends on what kind of experience you have. If you are just starting out and are not practice area specific yet, then I would want to see computer skills, writing skills (even a writing sample), organization skills, leadership skills, etc.

If you are experienced in a particular area, I would want to see that. For example, for litigation paralegals, I want to see what document management software, litigation support software, trial support experience they have. For corporate or real estate, there are different skill sets.

I don't have any advice about job postings... I'm sorry! It's a VERY tight legal market right now with so many staff / attorneys looking for work, but that doesn't mean you won't find the right opportunity. Look for inhouse positions as well as firms, and be persistent!

Good luck!
