don't be too upset about not getting a dog in one night. adding a pet to your family is a big deal and it's not something you should rush into (that's why there are so many pets in need of rescuing...)

i volunteer for the humane society and i would recommend trying there again. if you are interested in chiuahahas my roomate helps a local chiuahaha rescue group and i could get you their info. lots of options.

if you are free sat morning, the humane society of charlotte is hosting "Petapalooza" and there will be dogs there available for adoption.

good luck in your search for your new family member

I don't much about pet adoptions, but I will say Happy belated Birthday!

Thanks guys. I understand commitment as I've had dogs before plus tons of cats. Im not trying to rush but its frustrating when you are trying to accomplish something and its a pita.

I didn't want to go to PL as I know its associated with bad things..Was just looking and cant believe their prices!!

Thanks for all the bday wishes

FYI to all looking for animals, Petapoolza is the 30th..

Our dog, Peabrain, was a resuce dog from Vaginia. When we got her she was a puppy and we brought her to the vet the day after we got her.

She was puking, coughing, bloody stool, infected ear, you name it. Vet said she wouldn't have made it another day or 2 without treatment.

We found out later that all 7 of her brothers and sisters had the same bacterial infection. Our adoptive mother told us she had the sniffles and gave us some prescribed antibitotics to bring home with us. When we looked at her, we would have never have known that anything was wrong. The adoption vet gave her a clean bill of health too.

We've spent probably about 8 to 10k over the last 8 years for her constant ear infections and swollen vag due to allergies. She's on weekly shots now at about $150 a month and I think that finally she is getting some relief.

She is such a good girl though that I wouldn't have done anything differently.

Our other dog, Pinhead is like a cement block. Never sick, eats anything that is not attached to something(like the trolls do) and listens to us, believe it or not.

Here she is as a puppy, you can see where they shaved her for an iV.

Another vote for Petfinder.com! You can search by age, sex, breed, size etc. Most local rescues and shelters list their animals for adoption there. We found a dog that interested us and she happened to be at an adoption fair the following day in Gastonia. She came home with us as a "foster" and we returned to adopt her the following week. She is the best dog ever!

What a coincidence! We were at Target today, Exit 25 and I think it is a Petmania next door that had a bunch of puppies out in front of the store in cages up for adoption. The cages were cage fences. There was a little girl inside one of the cages petting a puppy. They had a 6 month old lab mix, mostly black but some brown highlights, that I wanted to take home. They also had several puppies with a Dachsund mom and a father who "snuck in under the fence." they were guessing some type of terrier, so these would be small dogs. The puppies didn't have super short legs like a dachsund.
