Did your friend say why Union County would be better for you? I have lived in the Lake Norman area for 10 years (so I am a little biased), but I would pick Lake Norman area over Union County. But, it definitely depends on your needs and wants.

Good luck.

Since the friend made the suggestion, why not have the friend tell you specifically where you should look in UC?

That individual would likely have a better idea of your needs than us - although you are always welcome to provide more details about your situation/needs.

Union County is very family oriented and you should consider Western Union County which has some very good schools (Weddington, Marvin to name a couple towns)and lots of recreation options-Indian Trail Athletic Assoc www.itaanc.com, Weddington/Wesley Chapel WCWAA, Matthews MARA.
You are within 5-15 minutes of great shopping-Blakeney, Stonecrest, Ballantyne, South Park and 20 minutes of Uptown. UC has many nice neighborhoods with ammenities for the kids.

After researching the entire Charlotte Area we chose Union County as well. The schools are fabulous...Weddington, Waxhaw, Marvin and wesleyChapel are all wonderful towns. We also border South Charlotte which has tons of shopping and dining options.

The area is wonderful definitely check it out!

It's difficult for any person to say which area is "better". Many of my clients check out both the north and south sides of town before they make a final decision. Some like the north better, but many like the south better. But only you can decide for yourself. For sure check out the south and Union County before you make a final decision -- if nothing else you will be sure of where you want to focus.
