Mallard Creek High School
The Great Schools web site has no info on this school because it's new. Can anyone share their thoughts and experience.
Thanks

Jackie, in a year of posting you have asked these school questions over and over - what ELSE can we really tell you at this point???
No offense, but it seems to me you are set on living in one end of town and keep asking questions about the schools there, that many of us have already answered, in hopes of getting answers you want to hear instead of the answers that we've given you.
As for Mallard Creek High School, again it is too new for any real scores to be available - they had a great football season, especially for a new school and one or two posters (who don't seem to post here any longer) seemed pleased with how things were going for their kids on past threads.
I really feel what you want to know has already been addressed in some of your other threads over the year:

But in case you missed it, maybe there is some info for you here:

If I wanted to live north, I would go all the way to Mooresville. Their schools are excellent. I would either choose Mooresville or S. Charlotte.
Why not choose the neighborhood you like and then if you aren't happy with the schools - just send them to private schools?

The police don't go out there often. That's a plus.

LovesMountains,
I ask many questions . Nothing stays the same!! Schools are added, school boundaries are changed, Changes occur all the time!!! If I asked the same questions in 6 months regarding schools the responses will be different. Can't say that about to many places. Thanks for your thoughts.

I have two boys that attend MCHS. Please look at the free and reduced lunch percentage not the race percent. My boys are white, and play sports and do very well academically, most of the kids they've known for many years (lived here 10 years now)
Son #1 started at Vance HS (9-10 grades), did very well there playing baseball and had great grades.
Son #2 started Mallard Creek as a Freshman.
The administration is awesome, Ms. Rea came from Vance. They really stick to the rules set by CMS. They were just awarded the Academy of Engineering - Project Lead the Way for Motorsports Engineering, which they will start this fall. Many of the sports teams have done really well. Our football team only lost one game all year, but we did have to forfeit all but 1 due to an ineligible player, (that's another story in itself, most parents and players don't feel it was right to take away the games). The athletic talent at the school is unbelieveable, both boys and girls. The football team has many good years ahead of them, just because the JV teams are so good also. AP classes, Honors classes are offered. The guidance staff is so helpful. The PTSA and Boosters are established, along with many other clubs and groups that the staff, parents and students can become involved in. The drama club puts on plays, marching band, orchestra, Army ROTC. We have been very pleased with the school. It is majority African American. My sons' class (09) is the first graduating class (about 370 students), and my #2 son will be the first graduating class to have attended all 4 years at MCHS (about 600+ students). I would suggest you visit the school, ask to look at the yearbook, it has pictures of the clubs, etc.... There is something going on even when school is out, this week would be very busy, because it is senior week, the seniors are being treated to a cookout at the football field today with alot of other activities going on for them. While the underclassman get ready for exams (which start next week). Wait until the numbers come out as to how many students are going to college, amount of schloarships dollars awarded is released, I think it will surprise alot of people. There are some bright and wonderful students in that school, and it reflects on the parents and the staff/teachers at MCHS. These are just my personal experiences, someone else, may have their own and they may not be as good. I guess one thing I'm concerned about is the road it is on. It is a very curvy, country road. A Montessouri school will begin next to the hs in the fall, an elementary school will be built on the road (Johnston-Oehler Rd), there is only one light at the end of the road (intersection with Mallard Creek Rd), another light is needed at the other end where J-O meets with Prosperity Ch Rd. If three schools are going to be on that road then the state MUST do some improvements to it. Good luck in your search, feel free to ask me anything.
