Not trying to step on anyone's toes, but this place for some reason reminds me of the Truman Show.

Idk if new and shiny qualifies as quaint? Maybe I have a different definition.

Agreed with Belmont and Davidson. Also check out Harrisburg, Fort Mill and Locust. Visit http://insearchofmayberry.com/ if you want to see other cool small towns in NC.

Birkdale, Blakeney or Ballantyne . . . that's it.

I think these are all interesting suggestions, but I am still wondering if any of those towns can support a psychotherapy practice - and that was one of the OP's criteria, I believe.
We just had another poster in the last month who is also a psychotherapist planning on moving to Davidson.
Not trying to be discouraging! But that really would be a big component if it were me - how thriving a practice I could establish in any of the areas which we have mentioned. Possibly Ballantyne or Matthews . . . but I do wonder about all the other suggestions, knowing how many licensed therapists we have here (psychologists and psychiatrists as well as LSWs, etc).

For what you are looking for, you might actually like something in downtown Monroe:
AllDowntownMonroe.com — Everything you ever wanted to know about Downtown Monroe (and a few things you didn’t)
There is a pretty large medical community in Monroe, the downtown area is quaint with shops and restaurants. The historic district is in the process of being renovated and updated. In the last month, a developer announced plans to take one of the older warehouse buildings and turn it into loft apartments with work-out space and martini bar...
