Thankfully, Wal-Mart is not propping the JW Clay area up, like it does in other areas (acting as an anchor store). Therefore, it won't be the start of a crumbling effect of all the other stores. Dick's, Best Buy, and sam's Club are more than enough to keep the anchor in place around there. That property will eventually be grabbed by someone...it's too hot of a location to sit idle for long. Maybe it sits for a year or so while the dust settles from the economy debacle, but it'll get snatched up.

Did you hear they forsee hiring something like 23K additional people the next few years? Retailing, it's our new growth industry. Sigh.
I do shop their occasionally; for some hard goods they are the only game in town. But for food you can nearly always do better at HT or Lowes with the double coupons.

Don't act like it's all bad news for the suppliers. They make a heckuva lot more cash by having their product on the shelves at Wal-Mart than anywhere else.
As for a living wage, Wal-Mart, a private company, is not responsible for propping up its employees. It pays a wage at or above that which is required by law. If the Wal-Mart cashier can make more elsewhere, he or she will go elsewhere.
I get that people hate Wal-Mart, I really do. But for me, the benefits outweigh the cost. If I can save $100 or even $50 by shopping there, that's more money that I can spend on other goods, donate to charity, or invest.
In summary, while Wal-Mart is not perfect, they are exceptionally smart business people with one of the best supply chain strategies in existence.

And where may the cashiers go and work, considering the Walmarts and other box retailers have crushed the competition?
This is the major problem with the corporate world nowadays ... no need to be responsible and take care of your employess, just do the minimum required by law. Source your goods from outside the country, where labor laws are practically non-existent. But make donations to the local charities for good PR within community. No matter your employees don't earn enough to make their own donations, and maybe even need assistance from these charities to help them survive. I'm sorry, somewhere along the way the ethic of Sam Walton got twisted and lost.
I'm not a fan of their practices, and I choose to shop elsewhere whenever possible. Unfortunately its not just them, but any large retailer.

I can't wait for Wallyworld to open in CM. It saves me money in gas then going to the one on 29 and in turn, I can spend that money elsewhere. Trust me, I've been stimulating the economy yesterday and plan on doing it some more today..You can't take it with you people!

That's the only one I'll go into. I hated, hated, hated them back in New Jersey. Could not stand them at all. The on on JW Clay should be imploded with most of the employees and clientele still inside. That one on 29 I'll go into.
