Slow Time Warner Cable Internet
About a month ago, I noticed that my internet was slower than it used to be. I use Time Warner cable internet. Has anyone else with Time Warner seen this happen? It seems slower whether I'm using wireless or plugged directly into the modem. Thanks.

Yeah, RoadRunner speed goes up and down, depending on how many people are on, and how much data is moving through the cable. Now that school is ending, you can probably count on slower speeds as lots of kids are home and on the computer.
If you go to Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test and run the speed test, you can see what kind of performance you're getting. But beware, it will probably make you mad when you see that you're not really getting the service you're paying for.

I had this problem about 2 years ago with Road Runner. It turned out to be a bad power pack. If problem persist I would take the cable modem and power pack into Time Warner and switch them for a new one.

DaddySpice is correct according to the information the TW tech gave me. Mine would be fine for long periods of time, then begin to slow down. TW cameout and ran a new cable, changed cable boxes, etc. I finally got an independent tech who told me they simply oversold the amount of service on our segment and it would take a new segment to solve the problem. Soon after the new segment or line was added my service returned to normal speed. It's been bogging down again over the last several months, guess it's time to complain.

You should also run a deep scan on your computer b/c a virus or spyware can slow down internet responding.

I have TWC and RoadRunner and am about at the end of my patience with them. It's not dependable at all at certain hours. I had an appointment for a technician to come out. I sat here and waited and waited and finally called only to find out that THEY had cancelled my appointment. They never bothered to let me know. This morning around 8:30 my doorbell rang three times. I looked out the blinds and it looked like some gang-banging thug on my front porch. It was the Time Warner guy. Needless to say I didn't let him in. If I could find a reliable option for Internet and TV, I'd be there right away.

Strangely its my Time Warner internet that works like a charm and the cable TV that is absolutely awful (goes in and out all the time, cable boxes restart themselves mid-show, none of the features that they tout work).
Definitely run a virus scan, defragment your hard drive, and make sure you don't have too many unnecessary programs running in the background. THEN if all else fails, call TW. It could be one of several issues to include the above reponses: bad power pack, faulty modem, but my money is on TW overselling the line. I know AT&T is starting to install some fiberoptic lines around Charlotte that would put TW back in the stone age with their current lines. Might want to look into the alternatives too if TW gives you the runaround...

Stereotyping?
TWC does do an extensive back ground check on their in-house techs. Just because he doesn't look like you doesn't mean he's a "gang bangin' thug." You didn't even give him a chance to do his job before you passed judgement. Sheesh.

Moral disagreements aside....
I too have noticed very poor performance lately from my TWC internet. I've called them already and the lady "refreshed" my modem settings. I maybe got 2.1mb during a couple tests. I felt that was a much better rate than I WAS getting when I decided to call; ~400kb down. So once she did something on my modem it was fine; for about 30 minutes. It's back down to ~200kb-~400kb.
When I first moved here 11 years ago I was one of the first poeple on a new segment and I was getting consistent 6+MB down speeds. *sigh* those were the days. I also agree with the flooded segement theory as lots of co-workers are saying the same thing we are lately.
I'm calling them one more time to have them send someone out to check all the lines and modem before I switch to 3mb DSL from AT&T. I can get 3mb down bundled wiht my phone and satellite for ~$8 less than I'm paying for TWC.

AT&T will sell you naked DSL now. i.e. No phone service needed. Get that and a VoIP phone and your costs will be even cheaper.
