Default "Saturday Night Singing" at a church? Anybody know anything about this?

Saturday Night Singing at Northview Free Will Baptist Church

I saw a mention of this on Ch. 14's calendar of events, and it got my attention. Has anybody been to this, or a similar one? I think it's something my fiancee might enjoy because while she isn't interested in attending church, she says she misses the singing. So I guess I'm just hoping to find a description of what the event is.

Is there just a choir singing and the public is simply an audience? Or is everyone invited to sing along? Is it just a time for everyone to get together and sing, and there's no actual choir at all? Are there events like this closer to Charlotte that someone could recommend?

Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I can tell you what a "singing" at Baptist churches in Arkansas is, so hopefully it is the same! The audience sings. We used shape note music - published by companies like Stamps Baxter quarterly. The are old-style Southern gospel music.

Some churches include performances by gospel bands in addition to the audience participation time, some might even just have the band (but I never heard that referred to as a "singing").

Anyway, go to it! I'll bet you really enjoy it.
