My friend left Charlotte after being here for two years. She was unable to find a job, but quickly had several interviews lined up in NY and keep getting interviewed. With all these interviews, she is still without a full time job. Her part time job with Banana Republic transferred her to a New York store.
I can't say whether the grass is greenier, but the market sucks almost everywhere.
My brother moved to Indianapolis a few months back. He had been working for Lending Tree, but had been laid off. He went through a year or so of unemployment with no mortgage lender positions becoming available.
He took this job, which involves property assessments and mortgage loans, and from what I understand is doing much better. He's kind of 'eh' on the city, but at least he's working and has benefits again.
I have two friends who tried to get jobs here after their jobs ended. Both ended up leaving for jobs out of town. One was from Kansas City, and he headed back there, where he did find a job shortly after leaving here. The other wanted desperately to stay here (family here) but after a year of unemployment, he took a job out of state.
The rest of my friends and neighbors who are unemployed have all been out of work from 6 months to 11 months. They started out looking only here but every last one of them is now looking out of state.
