Thoughts? We are a gay couple and just feel like leaving NYC/NJ area to start new in a warmer climate. Where is a great friendly, diverse and up & coming area in Charlotte? We just looked on Clist for ideas of prices or rents and/or rent with options. Whats the climate like? Is it as friendly and nice and us folks up North think it is. Any feedback would be great just be nice - Hey we could be your neighbor one day - Ciao

Try Plaza Midwood, Dilworth, Elizabeth, Southend. Any of those should work for you.

Very friendly area and the weather is a lot nicer except for July/August (hot and humid). Maybe you can get a pool though. Lots of New Yorkers in Charlotte too. Good luck!

I am in South Charlotte. We have two gay couples on our street - there is another house for sale down from me. So don't rule out the burbs. Nice houses, close to upscale retail and every possible convenience.

Being gay is not an issue here in Charlotte, overall. You might find some people who are uptight in small towns or more rural areas. Lots of transplants here - and many from NY and NJ.

Tis true...that's the one thing that must be let known to anyone considering moving here w/out a job already lined up....it sucks for sure, but it could save a lot of trouble....
That said, if you have a job lined up, or can afford to live at least a year w/out a job by all means come on down.
The best areas in Charlotte are Plaza Midwood, Elizabeth, Southend, NoDa, Dilworth, and if you can afford it, Uptown (1st or 4th Ward, or some of the highrises if that's what floats your boat.).

Be careful relying on CL if you are checking out jobs. I have been looking for a while now and a lot of the jobs listed on there are scams. Probably the same with other sections of CL.

They don't call 'em "Carolina blue skies" for nothing - the weather here is lovely - except of course in late July/August when it can get really hot. Other than that our winters are very manageable, our falls and springs are colorful and gorgeous - most of us love the weather here!
