My wife and I moved down here from Lansdale, PA (Montgomery County) three winters ago. So far, we've had a dusting of snow twice and a minor ice storm or two. It's really not bad at all. Temperatures stay pretty mild for the most part. The average high temp in Jan is 50-51, and that's the coldest month of the year. We'll get a few days or weeks here or there where it gets pretty cold (maybe in the 30's), but it's nothing like a winter up north!
The local grocery chains, overstock retail stores that sale sleds and gloves, and te weathrmen have a secret meeting with this anoymous charity called "Give a Kid a Break"
They lobby to the weathermen to forcast extreme conditions and that causes wide spread panic . People leave their homes go buy all the eggs milk and bread one can handle. Set there alarms to 5 a.m just to hear the weather man say no school when it only a dusting on the grass. 7-9 am comes around and all arteries into the city are block due to freak outs on how to drive in snow. It Chaos LMAO
Seriously though you will be pulling out your christmas tree more than snow equipment. If you own a snow removal machine or other serious equipment like tire chains I would put them up on criagslist
If you live in PA now, you'll think winters in Charlotte are a dream! Winter? What winter??
In the 3 years I've been here from NY, I have never touched the snow shovel I brought with me once.
:-)
Funny story, my son moved to Concord 3 years before I did. When he was packing up, he brought his father's snow blower ha ha ha! Didn't realize he had it I guess. His father had passed away a few years earlier and my son had all his dad's things from his dad's garage. Anyway my son's a young fellow and after he bought his house, he's had quite a few "garage" parties.
All the guests looked at the snow blower, and for the life of them none of them could figure out just what the heck the thing was. Needless to say, it hasn't been fired up since my son brought it to Concord with him.
you are all killing me as I sit here reading this. The week we visited was 87 there and then we came home to 30 YES 30..YUCK....todays high is going to be 50. Plus we are getting a noreaster Sunday all the way through Tues...I can't wait for July when we finally make NC our home!! I wish I could snap my fingers and wake up in NC!!
I tell my customers there are about 21 days of "winter" with highs only in the 30s and lows in the teens. The last few years we haven't even had that!
Our snow removal policy is simple: "Let it melt" the few times it has snowed in the last ten years have been followed by 55 and 65 degree days... seriously they only plow the Interstate, if its more than 3", everyone stays home... see more about Charlotte on my blog
