Where to look for house in Charlotte Metro area???
25 year old white male from out of state.
Want to move to an area within 40 minutes of work in Charlotte, and would like to live in an area with young people around because i would need to make some friends!
I would prefer to have a few bars/restaurants and stores in the immediate vicinity of my house (within 10 minutes drive). I would want to live in a mostly white area also... Besides that, I would like to have my own pool.
That is about it. Budget around $200,000. Where should i look? this is the map from the real estate web site: which number should i look in and which specific areas?

Matthews is definately the best for you. It's a separate town at the edge of the county. Has it's own library, little downtown, etc. Almost anywhere in Charlotte has young people, though I would say it's family oriented. It's in area 4 I think. Areas 4 and 5 are mostly white. Lots of area 3 (Mint Hill) and 6 are. The northern part of the county also, but the commute is hell from there

You want your own pool and you want to pay under $200,000? I don't think so.

Townhouse in the Ballantyne area (part of Area 5) is probably your best bet, given that you are single and have an aversion to living among non-whites. Otherwise, University City area. Matthews is pretty much all families - bad choice for single newcomers.

You know, I am having problems taking this post seriously.
First off, you seem to think you can get a home here for chicken feed. You can't.
Second, you say you are 25 and you want to be around other young people yet you are looking in residential suburban areas (wh/ are always saturated w/ families).
Then you make this statement about living around only white folks, wh/ is kinda icky on the surface and sounds like baiting when one really thinks about it - this is the South and Charlotte is about 60:40 white: minority.
So what is the point of your post?

Why is asking about a "white" area icky but asking about a "gay" area is not?

Because the South has worked hard at overcoming a stigma about diversity in neighborhoods. This is not hard to understand. Diversity is neighborhoods is a good thing and diversity includes not only ethnicity, but also sexual orientation.

I agree but think there is a double standard on this type of question depending on who is asking it. Probably everybody alread know this but I guess I can't resist bait.

I sometimes wonder if we get posts f/ folks just trying to inflame things, especially when accompanied by requests about a house under $200,000 that would include a private pool. Pools themselves run $25,000 up, so . . . other than an above ground pool, wh/ most HOAs ban . . . the likelihood of finding a house anywhere in the area that has an inground pool and costs under $200,000 . . .
