What would be some of the best school districts that have African American populations?

Whatever we can name we can categorize and therefore control. If any group wants to name themselves as part of their determination towards self-identification and purpose I should respect that decision. Why should they need approval from those outside of their community? Why should they give you or anyon else the power to label and determine who and what they are are what they want to be called?

Thanks for the chuckle, though I think it is inappropriate to bait some people and to make fun of other people like this.

Don't forget you are talking of the South and sad to say racism is still very real bc it is the foundation of which this state was built, so it will take centuries to uproot..there are none of these fine neighborhoods that exist if I must say so myself..we have to always fit in the neighborhood of which we were blessed to become a part of..i live in Lake Norman and I have lived in Weddington,Ballyntyne and several areas of the so called Affluent areas and it is all the same...you just have to find an area that works for you and make the best of it and create a networking circle..there is always a fine line of the well of and the po folks and as for me being a Black Woman..the lifestyle of the well off is nice and i enjoy it but as far as my roots when neighbors speak and will give your kids a drink of water and come over to say hi..i miss that...THERE ARE NONE OF THESE THAT SUPPORT US AND I AM MOVING TO FIND THAT CULTIVATION FOR MY SONS AND I...it is a racist and undercut state and in their eyes you are just a black woman..I have been in corporate America, executive positions and all and the sad part is NC has a long way to go...I will not tell you false dreams my sister..it is a struggle that even my sons endure and they attend PRIVATE SCHOOL...picture that..it is soooo obvious research intense topics and you will see..Charlotte had these when I was growing up and now they are no more..the city has allowed people to come in and revamp and with the tax hikes our forefathers that once owned them cannot afford the increase on their fixed income and they are forced out of their properties...try another state..it is good to visit but it is a struggle to live in..

Knowing that racism can be found every where in the US, even outside of the south, I'm curious to know what other cities you've lived in?

Personally, I don't think very much of your post. No offense, just same old, same old words. Must commend you tho for use of "the well off and the po folk" line. Very dramatic. Prolly learned that kind of writing when you worked corporate. However, your long tale of woe will not change my opinion one bit about your agenda.

Have a blessed day,
je

If living in a place as nice as Charlotte is a struggle for you I'm so grateful for your sake that you weren't born in south Central LA, New Orleans or Detroit

I have found that in life what you put into it is generally what you get back out of it. Best of luck with getting out of it everything you have put in.

I do not presume to say that Charlotte is a bit of paradise BUT it seems to me if you have lived in so many different part of Charlotte and never felt comfortable that it may have just as much to do with you as the people you were living beside. By that I mean you may carry some apprehension or insecurities when dealing with white america. Let me say right now this apprehension may be very well founded in your life of experiences but if you want to meet people who will say hello and offer you kids a glass of water it may be time to let you guard down a bit.

Just as an example I will tell you a story. I was sitting in a restaurant one night waiting for our name to be called whne a group of African-American girls walked-in. They sat down beside us and so I inched over giving the girl next to me a bit more room. Her immediate reaction was a very angry and loud, "what you don't want a black girl sitting next to you"!! Well it could not have been further from my mind but rather than getting angery I tired to understand what it must feel like for a person to feel unwanted or unwelcomed for no other reason than the color of her skin. So with a little empathy I reassured her that I did not feel that way. She never accepted my reassurance but her friends did ultimately apologizing for her.

The point is that she felt the way she felt probably because of previous experiences and not from anything I had actually done. Maybe just maybe you carry some of your previous negative experiences with you into new situations? If so you will probably have trouble feeling comfortable in predominately white places, whether they be work, home or play. And leaving Charlotte won't fix that. Either way I hope you and your family find a place you are happy.

You're a better and bigger person than I am. I have mixed feeling on what you say in highlighted paragraph. ie: Why is it necessary "to understand" what you think is the problem. The girl was RUDE. No two ways about it. Do you need to "understand" the redneck in tattered work clothes, dirt under nails,in a restaurant saying a like and similar thing? No, and maybe your DH would give him a fat lip?

Really, not the forum for me to continue with this but there is a real problem with this "guilt" thing here in America.

Done
