The reason you don't see too many houses "tented" here is because we only have one species of termite in this area to contend with - the eastern subterranean termite. The colony lives in the ground and the treatment is a soil treatment. In the areas where you see the "tents" there are drywood termites and formosan termites that don't have to go back into the soil. There are other pests that can be fumigated but it's pretty expensive, there is no residual, and the risk and insurance are very high. A fumigation license is totally different than the license to treat for general pest or the license to treat for wood destroying insects.

+1 for the ducky

I ran up to Cost Co today and as I was walking by the baskets something on the ground caught my eye. It was a large bug, probably about 3 inches long and was on it's back, was brown and had pinchers. At first I thought it was a palmetto bug but not with pinchers?? I came home and searched on line and had my toes curled up just looking at the photo's of bugs not to mention the youtube video someone had posted. Dear labby just looked at me while I was making horiible "eewww" noises and cringing.

I just looked it up, I have (well apparently a few of us have):

Entomophobia- is a common fear of or aversion to insects and similar arthropods, and even other "bugs", such as worms. Commonly, this condition might be referred to as the "fear of insects or bugs". This condition causes a slight to severe emotional reaction, a form of anxiety or a panic attack. It is a particular case of specific phobias, all of which have basically the same causes (differing mostly in the source of phobia) and similar choices of treatments.

I agree... +1 for the duckie.

Did you find the Costco bug in your search on the internet? Could it be a stag beetle? Saw a 1.25" stag beetle (which I proudly identified, although I'd never seen one before) clinging to the wall outside McDowell Nature Preserve's Nature Center. The park-staff inside told me it must be a baby because it wasn't very big. She then showed me a HUGE beetle in a cup that someone brought in from their home. I think she said it was a Hardwood Stump Borer Beetle. LOVELY!
