Default Maintaining a swimming pool with BBB?

Does anyone maintain their swimming pool with the BBB's: Bleach, Borax and Baking Soda?

I hear this is an alternative to regular pool supplies, but want to hear pros and cons from people who do it first hand. We just purchased a home with an inground pool and are working our way through the learning process of how to maintain it. If anyone has pointers, please send them my way.

Thanks

I have used the method for 4 years now. As long as you maintain the right levels, it works perfect and much more cost effective.

There is a forum, can't recall off top of my head, that discusses how to do this in great detail. A few googles should get you what you need. I have a .doc at my house with all the info for my pool size and shape. There is a calculator out there as well that will tell you what chems to use and how much. Easy stuff.

I use it for my inground pool, not the bleach so much. The Borax will really raise your PH, the baking soda pretty much maintains it. I put it in the skimmer, then recirculate my pool. Pools are different as far as functions, but getting it distributed is important. Also, don't add in the morning or the heat of the day. I always do my chemicals once the sun goes down. There are directions on the boxes on how to use for a pool, and as said there are websites, do a google search.
