That's like saying the number one ingredient in the balloons found in Phish lot is helium.

This is 2009. I don't know any time travel people. I thought hippies went out in the late 70's. We really didn't have any then either. We watched California on TV for hippie entertainment.

Thanks!

there are plenty of heady types around Charlotte. though definitely not as prevelant as some areas of the country.
Head out on a Thurs. or Fri. night. Hit up the P-stone, Thomas Street, Neighborhood Theater, Visulite... etc. And meet some folks.
There are a lot of (reforming?) hippies in my neighborhood... Dead heads, Spread heads, Phish heads... kinda lends to the laid back air of the neighborhood. We have weekly block parties where we all just wander from house to house.
It's Friday.... Jerry's on the stereo, cold beers are stacked. But we're all old.

Cartman: Mayor! Mayor! It's just as I suspected. The hippies are organizing for a music jam fest!
Mayor: I know. I signed the permit for it.
Cartman: You... you what?
Mayor: I signed the permit allowing them to have their little music fest here. It just might pump some money into the community.
Cartman: They're hippies, they don't have money!
Having gotten that out of the way, I always figured NoDa for a hippie type place. Anywhere that has a place called Salvador Deli and Smelly Cat Coffe House must be. It usually seems to be hopping on weekend nights.
Just don't start a drum circle.

Having been to those kinds of festivals...unless you've actually been to one you have no idea how much truth there was to that episode.

Well that's not very mellow. Not sure if you'd be allowed in their secret club with that sort of tone!
As for folks being disappointed that we don't have a hippie "community," I'm just fine without it. The smell of BO and burnt rope is tolerable for only a very short amount of time.
Don't they all think Asheville is the center of the universe or something? Seriously, someone told me that after I came back from Asheville years ago for the first time reporting that it was full of lazy people who sit on the sidewalk playing a trashed guitar, wearing old cut-off camo (made for war, go figure) shorts, trying to sell crappy "art" scribbled on a piece of old cardboard....for a couple hundred dollars, no less! No big deal...the draw to the Asheville area for me is outside the city limits, not on the streets of downtown.
