Help me feel comfortable leaving NJ, Please!
I'm a young (not ready for checkers at the senior center) 59yo divorced man. I've lived in NJ for the past 20+ yrs and am realizing nobody is friendly, warm or accepting. No one seems to want to foster new friendships. Its no surprise, however. I am alone with my dog and have gotten up the courage to start thinking about leaving, though it is a little scary. I am Jewish, but not religious so I thought an area with some Jewish population would be a good place to start. I also have a medical condition and need to be reasonably close to a good medical center, Duke etc. I plan on buying a Townhome or Condo if that helps you any. Thanks so very much to those who reply!

Cody, you would love it here. Lots of very friendly people from all over the country live here. Everyone seems to be "in the same boat" and just wants to live a good life, surrounded by people who aren't rude and wrapped up in the rat race. Have you visited the area yet? I'm not Jewish, but I've heard that the JCC here in Charlotte is fabulous!
Good Luck to you!

thank you
Oh I'm all right, I think As a matter of fact since I stopped working I spend almost every day volunteering in the ER of a local hosp. I also spent 2 years volunteering in pediatric oncology, best 2 yrs of my life. I made a promise to only surround myself with good people and thats tough around here. I was hoping to find it some place else. Thanks again and if you have any ideas regarding the best way to visit let me know.

Best way to visit, you mean like flying out or staying in a certain place?

Not sure I understand your comment?
Do you mean to infer that as a 50ish divorcee who happens to be Jewish his only place in this whole wide world would be in NY or south Florida?? He can't possibly find friends or happiness, or maybe even new love, ANYWHERE but those two places??? Give me a break. I think he would most likely find Charlotte a very refreshing place to be actually.

Cody, why not come on down to Charlotte for a visit? Carolinas Medical Center is top notch. I would be very surprised if you couldn't find the kind of care you require there. There are many nice condo's and townhomes all over the city. I suggest you look down in south Charlotte near the Ballantyne area to start with.

I agree, I think lots of people are coming here to get away from other places and make a new start. New York and S Florida are expensive they don't sound like good alternatives to me. People seem to be very friendly here in Charlotte.
