Has anyone ever had a hail damages roof replaced?
My neighborhood has been having a lot of roofs replaced recently and apparently it was from back in July of last year. I have a high deductible so I am not sure if its worth filing a claim, and what I can expect.
Anyone experience this?

When I lived in the midwest I had to regularly replace shingles due to hail damage. It was common practice there (but we had cedar shake roofs). I never filed an insurance claim as I (like you) had a high deductible. It usually ran me $350-700 tops to replace the broken, split or missing shingles.
Is your roof missing a lot of shingles or are they just loose? Cause if there are a few that are missing or loose, unless you have wood damage or leaks, I would think you could get someone in to repair your existing roof rather than replacing it.

Recently had a roof replaced because of hail damage. If the roof is less than 10 yrs old, it is probably not worth replacing yet. In any case, the deductible is far less expensive than the roof replacement. Expect a roof replacement (shingles only, no underlayment) to run a minimum of $200/square (1 square = 100 square ft). The roofing guy we hired took the insurance money. We just paid the deductible. Hope this helps.

Hail damages the granules on the shingles causing them to wear at a faster rate. You could have your insurance adjuster and a roofing contractor come out to inspect for damage.

This was at a house I own in VA. I think it might be too far for that roofer to come out this way.

some insurance companies will only let you file a claim within one year of the event, so you might want to check on this. we had our roof replaced in TX right before we moved to NC. it sure made the house look nice and was a good selling point too. if someone told you you could have a new car but would have to pay 5% of the total cost, would you do it? What Im saying is even with a high deductable it can be (usually, not always) a good deal when insurance will cover the major portion of the bill for such a big ticket item like a roof.

If there's nothing wrong with them, leave 'em alone - If they are still intact, and shedding water, then there just fine...have you taken a look at them? can you see a hail pattern? JUst because your neighbors are doing it, doesn't mean you have anything at all wrong with yours...

I just had a guy with a company that specializes in insurance claims from storm damage roofs. He stated mine had more than enough damage to report a claim. If anyone lives from Huntersville to Concord, the are still doing roofs for insurance companies from last years storm that passed through. They will even meet my adjuster there to make sure I am protected. I had no idea it was that easy. If anyone is interested in their info send me a msg and I will pass on their info.
