Interracial family considering Charlotte
Hi, we are strongly considering a move to charlotte early next year. I am in an interracial marriage husband is black Im white. We have 3 beautiful children and want a better life for them. Is this really the place? I hear it's beautiful and the people are friendly. Any info would be greatly appreciated!

It's a large city. Interracial couples hardly rate a second glance in NC at all anymore regardless of where they reside. Any negatives would be minimized in a big town like Charlotte.

Coming originally from CA...we think the Carolinas are beautiful and the people are very friendly (we are located in SC....next to NC stateline...just outside of Charlotte)....there more than likely will be some that will disagree....but that's why I always tell people to come check it out for yourself. As far as an interracial marriage with 3 beautiful children.....I would say my husband and I garner more looks with our 15" height difference than you folks ever will. Good Luck to you!

I too am originally from CA...northen CA. I do have to admit, we did occasionally get looks there too but for the most part it was a "non" isssue. Here in arizona we have had some peole act weird but most people dont ever state their opinions out loud. I dare 'em too...lol. Anyways, thanks for responding. I know some will always have aproblem and it's not like it will make my life any different I just worry about my kids. They are pretty self-confident independent souls, Im sure they will be fine where ever we end up :-)

We're from Northern CA too, sassieb, and also are an interracial family considering Charlotte. There may be a small few who will stare; even fewer who'd dare comment in your presence. For the most part, it'll probably be like being an interracial family in Sacramento in the early '90s.

Like anything else, there will always be someone to stare at something...Here in NY, one of the most ehtnically diverse areas (especially NYC) just about anything goes ... I am a firm believer of not judging a book by its cover, if you only look at the outside, you never know what your missing by reading the entire thing...and each cover has its own special story!

It won't be an issue at all.
You will be surprised to find that the south is MUCH more integrated than here in AZ.
I believe the demographic between Phoenix & Charlotte are exactly reversed between the percentages of Hispanics/African Americans.
I suggest you visit to ease your mind but I guarentee you won't have any problems.

Thanks for the input Jethro, I really appreciate it. I really want my kids to grow up with more diversity than Az has to offer. Oh, congrats on the new addition coming, my third will be 2 in Nov.

Sassieb75 - I just posted that you can go to individual county and school websites and it break down the ethnic races in the schools including multi - this can give you a feel for what is there and what you would feel most comfortable with.

Also interracial looking to relocate to NC
My husband and I are also interracial with two biracial daughters. My kids are also my main concern. We live in a small NJ shore town now, and have had no problems/issues. I am very comfortable here, it is just getting so expensive. I am not very comfortable with change for the fear of the unknown. My kids will adjust well anywhere I am sure, but I want to make sure we are not looked upon unfavorably just by appearances. My husband travels to the Raleigh area about twice a month and loves it. But my concerns are more for the kids, not us...let me know your thoughts. Good Luck to you and your family.
