Crime near Charlotte airport
Last Saturday night we stopped an exit south of the airport to have dinner before checking into a hotel. We were on our way back from a vacation in Florida. We stopped at Redbowl Asian Restaurant in a shopping center. While we were eating our SUV was broken into and thieves stole our laptop, GPS, camera, etc. They also broke into the vehicle next to us and stole a laptop from them. We called the police and an officer came out after about 30 minutes.
Here's the weird part, the officer didn't seem a bit concerned about catching the bad guys or getting back any of our stuff. As you can imagine, the personal information on the laptop and the pictures on the camera were the things we miss the most. He made it sound as if he was going through the motions just for the paperwork aspect. Does anyone have any experience with this? Do you think there is anything I can do to recover our things?

No. Not unless they catch a burglary ring and find a stash of stuff. Your things are long gone to sell for drug money. Were the things in sight?

Sorry but the cops dont look for people when they dont know who they are. If they find your stuff later (one chance in a million) they may call you and they may not....The places to eat and stay near the airport are located in very heavy crime zones with government housing near by. The worse section of town.lock your doors.

Sorry this happened to you and your family Can you tell us where exactly this was (street name)? The only Red Bowl I know of isn't near the airport. But if you were near Billy Graham and I85 these things do happen I'm afraid.

Ya, thefts from vehicles happens around Charlotte a lot. Your best bet is to never leave anything valuable in the car even if it is not in sight. Even if you "hide" it in the trunk or some other place, you may be seen doing so in the lot so the crook knows where to go looking.

Sadly I agree with the other posters. Honestly I'm surprised a cop came out at all.
Is there a new Red Bowl? The only Charlotte location I know of is in the Mountain Island area. There is another one in Tega Cay.

I can't think of any other Red Bowls either. And neither of the 2 mentioned are close to the airport!

I wasn't able to find any other Redbowls in the Digital Health Department database. I even tried just searching by Bowl and didn't find any near the airport.

Hi, Toobusy! I am so sorry to hear this. We have a big problem w/ vehicle break-ins here. I am confused about the location, as well, or I would give you more specific info on that area. In the future, sure hope you will post here b/f your trip and we will give you recommendations on where to stop around the city - in the safest areas.
Sadly, the way you were treated is common, as LE here know that they rarely are able to track down stolen merchandise. Once in a while, someone will be busted w/ a garage full of stuff, but I bet I haven't heard about such a situation in over a year. Everyone I know who has had things stolen out of their cars has never gotten anything returned. In fact, they have never even really heard back from CMPD - cause these thugs rarely are tied to individual thefts - unless caught in the act.
I heard on the news that several people were arrested this past Saturday for breaking into cars in a parking lot (I think at an apartment complex) - but these cretins were caught in the act. That was up in the University area.

Yep, 3 people arrested. They've been busted several times before, too.
