I moved to Charlotte because most of my family is here but quite honestly I only plan on staying here for a year or soo(will re evaluate when my apt. lease is up). It would be nice to have a job but the truth is I don't plan on looking for work until 2013. I mean sure if a good job comes to me before then I will take it but I am not going to bend over backwards trying to find something.

You must live pretty cheaply if unemployment is enough to get you by - guess you don't need insurance benefits?

I am completely baffled by this post.
Here's a crazy idea: Don't stay where you are. Don't move to Charlotte. Move somewhere you can get a job.
Planning on not working until 2013? Now you are just making me and all other taxpayers angry.

As stated above your home state continues to pay your unemployment until you get new income or it expires. So with that being the case think what the unemployement rate really is here since every unemployeed person who moved here is not being counted in nc unemmployment numbers, the state they are collecting from counts them. Ive heard est that if these people were counted you might add 2% to the real number statewide, that would put us right there with MI.. nc already is #7 worse in the country, makes you wonder.

Not only are you angering the taxpayers, you're also hurting yourself by not working. Regardless of whether you can "get by" on the unemployment you're receiving, by not working you're not putting anything into your base period for the future, if you should need to draw unemployment again in the future. UI isn't supposed to be your primary income. It's supposed to help you while you're looking for work and the idea is to get off UI as soon as you can. Brilliant concept, eh?
Additionally, you are REQUIRED to look for work at least twice weekly to maintain your UI benefits. While you aren't required to show proof of it on any regular basis, should the ESC call you in to go over your work search records you better have your ducks in a row. Further, once you get into the Extended Benefits (EB), those benefits are paid with federal money and because of that, it's required that you more frequently show your work search efforts, like once a month. Now, with as many people that are on UI benefits, it's hard for ESC to review all of them. But it just takes a flick of the wrist to cut your benefits off if you haven't complied with the requirements.

Its kind of funny how the same people telling me to go out and get a job are the same ones who are preaching how high the unemployment rate is and telling others that finding work is nearly impossible. The fact is I file 2 applications per week(online)and not one has called me back. I am getting to the point now where I am almost getting discouraged trying to find employment. The market will crash again this fall and the unemployment rate will skyrocket yet once again.

I think that someone posted here a while back about two sets of uneployment numbers : ONe number is what the public reads and the other was stats on unemployed and have given up on finding a job. Second number was higher. What is that data called? (the latter)

Being a landlord of a few buildings I can answer that but would rather not at this time because I can't find my wide paint brush that would start a "flaming" bon fire..I try to stay calm on weekends.
Maybe tom. when I put my game face on.
