Transferring Unemployment to NC?
Is it possible to transfer my out of state unemployment benefits to NC unemployment benefits? Also would I need to get a NC drivers license before I would get my unemployment benefits transferred?

I don't know what is possible, but after I moved to NC from NJ I registered with the local office (by phone) but continued to receive benefits from New York, where I last worked. I continued to certify weekly online.

It is my understanding that you have to recieve the benefits from the state you "invested" in with your taxes. NC would not want to add you to their rolls and pay you when your taxes all went into your home state.

You get your benefits from the state you were worked/became unemployed in. State unemployment rates vary, so if you could move, most people would move out of states with low rates to states with higher rates after becoming unemployed.

So in other words I guess I will not tell my home state that I moved. I have been on unemployment for 11 months now and I am still eligible for another 6 months(maybe more). I will also wait until I find work before switching over my drivers license and plates. Thank You

I moved from FL two years ago and was collecting unemployment at the time. I did a change of address or I would have had to attend a meeting in FL that I could not get to. I claimed benefits online and still looked for a job and there was no problem.

You don't have to live in or receive the benefits IN the state that you are receiving benefits from, you just still receive them FROM that state. I was receiving unemployment from California when we moved here and never had a bit of trouble after changing address, DL etc over to NC, but it still came from the California State office, and they were the ones that I sent my verifications back to.

If you move to NC you would file an Interstate Claim with the North Carolina Employment Security Commission. You file in the state you live in, draw benefits from the state you worked in. Your benefit amount would be based on the amount you are eligible for in the state where you worked.

and Charlotte's unemployment numbers tick up another notch....
This is not directed to the original poster but anyone who is thinking of coming to Charlotte who is not employed. Our unemployment rate is WORSE the most places in the country and going to get even worse once Wells Fargo kicks their layoffs into high gear.

I agree Frank. Unless you have another reason for moving to Charlotte I'd stay where you are.
