Red face Question on zip codes 28269 and 28214 in Charlotte?

I've seen great prices on homes in the area of zip 28214, 28215, and 28269 there listed as Charlotte. I think its West Charlotte. Does anyone know is this a good area for a single Mom of two kids? I just can't get over the great price on the homes! I would be moving from NJ !

28269 is the University area (in northeast Charlotte)
28214 is the Paw Creek area (in northwest Charlotte)

There are nice homes in both areas. These are not THE most desirable locations in the city - but not bad either. Check out the police department website for crime numbers in both areas. I'm sure you could find something to suit you somewhere here. Contact our poster CharloteAgent for more info - he knows most of that area well and is a very nice guy

I lived in 28269 off of Mallard Creek toward Highland Creek. I would certainly say that particular part of the zip code is a nice area, desireable for many. I think you'd be comfortable there and the elementary schools are good, I am not familiar with the middle or high school there.

I live in 28214 NW Charlotte...I think it is a pretty big zip code...some of it is not so nice or safe but where I live is...I am very close to Mountain Island Lake though...I could throw a rock and it would land in Gaston County. (I have a really good arm)

Just as an FYI- 28269 can also include some of Cabarrus county. In Highland Creek and Skybrook (I believe) there are parts that have a 28269/ Charlotte zip, and are in Cabarrus county. We're in HC, and have a multiple personality address

Make sure you check the schools out for the zip- some can be Mecklenburg, some Cabarrus. Within the zip it can be different schools too. Definitely check with Charlotteagent- he's a great resource in this area!

Come on up this way...you'll love it!

Anita

I live in zip code 28214! Our area is a nice little subdivision built in the late 80's called Stoney Pointe... I really like it.

Our kids' school (Paw Creek Elementary) has a rating of 6 out of 10 on greatschools.net, unfortunately. My kids seem to be getting a good education from the teachers so far- it looked like the standardized tests (they ran abt 85% on math and reading for 5th graders, if I remember correctly) and teachers with less then 5 yrs experience were the downfall (there seem to be many). I think we also have more lower income families in our school than Mountain Island Elem, as Mountain Island Elem has Mountain Island nearby with it's million dollar homes. (It could also be for other reasons of course- Im not entirely familiar with the area besides property searches and internet info).

Mountain Island Elem had a rating of 8/10- but they average 12 more kids to a class then Paw Creek. That was the highest rated elem school in the area.

We really aren't close enough to any magnet schools to bring the kids to one of those, either...

We are really close (a few minutes) to Mount Holly and Belmont in Gaston County-- they have better rated schools and are more rural- just FYI... I would like to have moved out there if it weren't further from my job.

Overall I think this area is good... If you want to know anything else about his area, feel free to ask.

I recently relocated from New York to Charlotte. I am renting at the moment but it purchasing a home in 28269 in a development called Brownestone. I found the area to be nice.

Good luck. I am recently separated from my husband but my kids are grown already.
