Insurance company hiring 300 in Charlotte - CharlotteObserver.com (http://www.charlotteobserver.com/breaking/story/821627.html - broken link)

Not sure if anyone has seen this, but I found it on Charlotte.Com. May be a good opportunity for someone who is unemployed.

So, that would be Diagnostic Devices, headquartered in Charlotte:

Don't believe everything in the press release, and take notice that it does not state exactly what manufacturing operations will be transferred to Charlotte.

Those "high tech, full time" positions will most likely be nothing more than unskilled labor needed to repackage their products, which will still be manufactured in the far east.

New jobs, yes. High tech (aka $$$), doubtful.

I checked out the company website and found that all the opportunities are full commission based compensation and you are ineligible for company benefits until production standards are met.

If this was in reference to my post, I want to clarify what I said. For the un-initiated in commission sales (I have been doing it all my life) this is something to consider carefully before getting involved:

1. No guaranteed income. If you are on unemployment, these benefits stop and there are no associated benefits (health care etc.) that go with accepting the position until you meet a company defined plateau of sales.

2. If you read into the number of jobs offered, it becomes clear that you will have up to 300 competitors selling the same products and services. Unless you are a superior salesperson (or you are selling to a relative or friend) you will lose the sale.

3. Can you imagine the difficulty of selling a discretionary offering (believe me, I am in real estate and understand the difficulty) in today's economy?

All I was trying to do was to make people aware of the situation and how it may affect them.

Also, these articles are so hyped up.

Remember last fall when PPD announced it would be coming to Kanapolis with 300+ jobs, well guess what, they have now pulled out. All that hype for nothing.

I don't know why they hype these things. If the company hasn't made a final decision to move to a certain area, then what is the point?
