Ani, you are the first person I have encountered with concerns about Cap and Trade ... and the crap they have added to that bill and it quietly passed the House in June with no fanfare whatsoever. People with homes in historical districts will be stuck FOREVER and EVER and our home built in 1977 is a dinosaur and the FHA is just kaput. I have called, written and emailed ... our Sen DeMint is against the Bill but our RINO Lindsey Graham is going to bed with Kerry and Boxer.

We have four acres and have in the past used the lower 2 for two cows ... got attached to the critters and couldn't kill them ... so traded them with a friend for two unknowns and ate them ... but we might have been eating Bessie and Harold and hubby just told us it was strangers. LOL

ooooooooooooooooooh what was this thread topic again , I bhad to rant sorry
Sunny, Washington is passing Bills right and left without our knowledge and the President is signing off on these things. Cap and Trade Bill ... American Clean Energy And Security Act of 2009 H.R.2454 is in our Senate right now. People think it's just a global warming reduction plan designed to reduce economy-wide greenhouse gas emissions. It's going to cost us big time. Even the President says so. This Bill will not only limit the sale of homes but will hit our check books at the gas pumps, electricity bills, heating, all the costs will trickle down to you know who ... us the consumers.

I cant watch the video Ill get worked up
Im for greener environment but I think our country has enough restrictions or laws that are working. Look at Canton that paper mill the smell has been drastically reduced. I was helping a newcomer by walking out to a water treatment plant near her potential neighborhood in Huntersville to see if there was a noticeable odor, and there wasnt. I feel so proud helping someone move to hopefully a better life. I hope her family likes it here
My point is the way economy is and as many people jobless. Enough is enough we will be fine with the laws and regulations we have already in place are working. We are not a third world country.
Durn it I think I am ranting again
(note to self: Stay away from this thread and hope no one violates the tos. You guys already have been good for 190 posts

Sunny, I was an activist in the 70s for "cleaning up the environment" - which is now called the Green Movement. I am sickened by the waste and the pollution I see all around me and I try to do my small bit at recycling, repairing, re-using, sharing, properly disposing of materials, etc. But it is like spitting in the ocean when I see China and India spewing emissions into the air and poisoning water systems.

Folks think we are getting legislation that will protect Mother Earth, and so everyone's heart is in the right place. What they don't realize is that this is legislation designed to create more tax money and also give Wall Street another way to trade a commodity. We are like sheep being led to a slaughter (I think I said that earlier - so forgive the redundancy) but the thing is - folks don't realize what is going on. We truly have had "the wool pulled over our eyes."

Estimates are that millions of jobs will be lost b/c of this legislation. I could go on and on . . . but I feel so hopeless and so there is no use to even say anything, b/c it is a done deal and no one with power is listening.

As to how we would survive if we had a collapse . . . I truly do believe folks who have land/farms or at least a lot large enuff for some chickens and a nice veggie garden will be the people who are envied in 10 years. People who bought big homes that will cost at least double to heat and cool (plus the added tax that the legislation mandates for homes over 2500 sq. ft) are gonna be in a big mess unless they are truly very wealthy.

If I had the cash to do it, I would create a co-op where lots of folks could work together to grow our food, chickens, a few hogs and have a few cows . . . it is amazing how much food can be generated when people work w/ the land and each other.

Folks who know how to can, sew, hunt, dress an animal, build a simple building. . . those are great skills to have if times get tough. Sadly, that crap & trade bill will restrict (and in many cases, totally outlaw) the use of wood in stoves. Yep. I know no one believes me, but yes, it is in the legislation. So planning on relying on wood to heat your home is not a very viable solution (or won't be). They can just come get me and haul me off. I will burn wood if I have it to burn and need to stay warm.

The world is in a mess and folks do not seem to have a clue what our own Congress is doing/getting ready to do to us - with so many bills they are passing. What sounds good on the surface is rotten at the core, but who can read 2000 pp of legal language in a bill and understand it?

Tomorrow, most likely, Congress will pass a healthcare bill that has very little to do with healthcare. Eventually, when it goes into effect, folks are gonna be shocked, angered, and feel they have been cheated and lied to. But for now, people believe the happy talk cause they cannot fathom that elected officials would create this kind of a mess. There is so much pork in that bill - it will make your head spin.

Someday, we will all look back to 2009 and wonder what the heck our leaders were thinking. For now, just stock up on beans and rice . . . and figure out what part of your yard you can plow up for a garden, lol!!! And buy a woodstove while you still can. The legislation I read won't allow you to sell your house if you have a woodstove unless you upgrade to a very expensive type of stove that burns only certain stuff (pellets, I guess - I don't remember). And it also requires that if you tear out your woodstove, you cannot sell it or give it away to someone - it has to be destroyed (like they did with the "clunker" cars). Now talk about WASTE!!!! Anyway, if you are planning to stay in your house, it won't matter if you have a woodstove, so get one now while you can still get the inexpensive ones. I am serious. The others will be illegal to manufacture (the old fashioned cast iron pot belly free standing stoves that cost a few hundred bucks). Lots of people w/ basements use these, even if they have gas/oil/electric in the rest of the house.

The thing about wood buring is based on faulty science anyway. Burning wood is environmentally a good thing if you farm the wood. It adds no net carbon to the atmosphere because growing the wood removes an equivalent amount from the atmosphere, and it is energy efficient as you don't have to move it 1/2 around the world or mine it.

Health care is a non issue for me however. What is alarming and should be of a concern to anyone is what they are doing to the money supply and how they have completely sold out to the bankers and banking system which is committing highway robbery. This will be the tragedy that one day the people will figure out once our economy has been completely ruined. Yesterday the goverment tried to auction off another $81B of debt and they could not find any buyers, so what did they do? They bought their own debt. Meanwhile they continue to keep interest rates at 0% and the banks are making a killing off the spread by gambling with the money. (Well for them it's not gamble)

In their best day sharks on the street didn't make this kind of money. Some of these guys with stogies in their mouth would roll over in their grave if they knew what the banks were making.
