Would like to leave NJ and was hoping for feedback. If I do leave here there's no turning back. No way I could ever sell down there and make enough to return to this area. I'll just list some of the things that come to mind

1. I'm a single guy in his late 50's and Jewish. I'm not religious. However, I probably would be more comfortable knowing I'm not the only one in town. I heard the Charlotte JCC is really nice.
2. Either a pleasant little suburban comm. as long as the essential stuff like food shoping, good medical facilities (very important), restaurants are close.
3. I'd really like to be in a place that has a quaint downtown area, but more than willing to drive to get there i.e. cafes, restaurants, theater etc.
4. Must be dog friendly area.
5. Maybe the most important thing is I'd like to meet friendly people. Not just "good morning, have a nice day". People who will make you feel welcome just as I would for them.. I know I might be dreaming on this one.
6. Want to buy a Townhouse for around $150k give or take.

I hope I've said enough to get some feedback going. Thank you all.

Well, I'm a native Charlottean, but I think you could find what you're looking for in either market. I know Charlotte has places that meet your criteria, and yes, the Jewish community here is very active and, from what I know, very nice. Hope you're able to make a good decision and wish you much success with your move!

Both cities are good, but I'd personally prefer Charlotte. More to do.

My children and I are moving to Charlotte this summer, actually Waxhaw, just outside of Charlotte. We are Jewish and South Park is beautiful. There is Shalom Park which has three temples, ortho, reformed and conserv along with a JCC. Beautiful. I research and found that Charlotte has more Jews than any other city in North Carolina. You should see it.

With what you are looking for, I would say Charlotte. You can get a real nice townhome for that price (I got a 5 year old one in FT Mill SC right next to Charlotte for 98k), Charlotte is very dog-friendly Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation and has a much larger downtown than Raleigh (not that Charlotte's is huge, but it's nice).
