Camping withing 2 hours or so
Anyone know of a good place to camp, where there may be water, can light fires and it's not as restricted, i.e. designated sites, no alcohol, etc. Thanks.

There are some nice water sites in the backcountry camping area of Stone Mt. State Park just 2 hours from Charlotte. As long as you aren't raising a huge drunken ruckus I don't think anybody would care if you had some alcohol and they all have fire rings. You have to hike in, but not more than a mile or so.

I haven't been to any of them but they are just a few I have been looking at myself.
I think there is one on Lake Hickory

I'll look those up, I was under the assumption most if not all state parks have lots of restrictions.. But I will research more, thanks folks.
