I'm sorry to hear this guy may be out of a job, but I thought he was so annoying. When he'd come on, I'd rush to change the channel. Personally, I don't get how someone like him gets on TV. I would think they'd do a focus group or something and people would comment negatively on the way he talked.

Maybe he does say Danny, it's hard to tell.

We both feel the same way as well. In fact, he sort of became our second alarm clock. We have a tendency in the morning, when the alarm goes off, to flip on 14 and see what's going on while we wake up and get ready to start the day. Once Dan comes on, that's what gets us moving out of bed to flip off the TV and get our day started.
When we first moved here last year, we were flipping channels and there was some one-man cooking show on the local access channel. He was in a dirty kitchen and was drinking the cooking sherry while he was cooking (and I think he was half-lit) - had a deep southern accent. The food didn't look very appetizing but we found this hysterical. Have never seen him since - anyone know who this was?

Just caught the tail end of his segment and I listened real close and he says I'm Dan Eaton! I thought he was saying Danny, but the way he speaks once he gets to Eaton the aton is so soft. Now I'll have to catch the beginning and see if he says Dannnny or Dan Eaton.

Never heard of this guy so I went to the Ch. 14 website for a peek. I agree with your observations. The way he speaks is SO ANNOYING! ARGH!!
He'd needs a speaking coach. I think this is part of the problem:
..."A current vocal habit is to use rising inflections on the ends of most sentences and phrases. Besides being irritating to your listener, "upspeak" gives the impression of a weak, indecisive and immature person. Break the habit by training your ear to hear the pattern. Listen closely to yourself (on tape if necessary) and then begin to replace the inappropriate endings with falling inflections."
His overall delicateness is a problem too. A shot of testosterone might help.

The guy's a chef. Not an anchor. It's a freelance gig. News 14 isn't paying his health insurance, I'm sure. The only thing that annoyed me was the awkward pauses where there shouldn't have been. "You're going to put in the .... tomatoes." But really, I would rather have someone who knows how to cook, whatever the idiosyncracies than these fake newscasters, who might have perfect hair and perfectly modulated tones, but are vapid. When did we start valuing style over substance to this point?

I live in Syracuse, NY now and we still get him on the news here so it must be a nationally syndicated thing. Don't mind him, but he does speak rather weird.
