Of course, it's just a tease. The Yes Network will be available starting 8/1/09 on channel 133 in Charlotte, but games will only be available through the Extra Innings package. Sorry to get your hopes up fellow Yanks fans. I guess we can at least watch the programming that was previously unavailable.

Attached is a copy of the release.

That goes for any team in any league. If you have access to NESN you can forget about watching the Bruins or Celtics unless you have the NHL or NBA packages. Even so, it'd be great to see Mike Francesa's show, those great Yankeeography's and Centerstage. Awesome stuff.

If they can set us up with MSG I'd be in heaven.

I agree, the addtional programming will be interesting to watch.

So they only show the games to those customers "in their network" - such as for YES, NY, NJ, CT, etc?

Yes. So long as that team's feed is licensed out to an out of market sports package the only people who get it for "free" would be the area that network serves. All we would get down here as far as Yankees broadcasts would be pre and post game shows. The station would just shut off from the start of the ball game until the post game show.

In the case of a network like YES there's so much other great programming it almost doesn't matter. Their Yankeeography series are probably some of the best player profile shows I've ever seen (I have four sets of those DVD's and they're like potato chips to me). The Centerstage interview are great and then you have Mike's show. I'm not sure what else they offer but I know there's a lot of great stuff.

Madison Square Garden Network is very similar in that respect. If Time Warner could ever get that station down here it would be pretty amazing. However they'd also have to deal with the Dolans...no easy feat. I imagine they could work out a deal since dish and telco providers do carry MSG.

Edited to say okay...reading that release we'd just get some other programming until the ball games end.

Another edit...Time Warner carries MSG in the NY Tri-state area!!! HEY TW!!!! GET THAT STATION DOWN HERE!!!!!!
