I need some recommendations for a good vet to take my dog to for teeth cleaning. I'm somewhat new to the area and have tried two vets and haven't like either. The first one was VERY pricey! Then I tried Banfield...big mistake! My dog is 6 without any health problems yet each time I've taken him for a yearly physical I've spent at least $300 for "required" tests, shots, etc.

So, if anyone out there can tell me where you take your dog and how much teeth cleaning costs I would be very appreciative! Thanks!

Hmm, I brush my dogs teeth. It's out of necessity really, his breath can knock over a cow. It ain't easy, but it ain't had either. Depends on the dog.

I recently took my dog to the groomer and asked if they would brush his teeth and they said they don't offer that service, which was kinda odd.

Have you tried Long Animal Hospital on South Blvd in Dilworth/Southend? They are great. I am not sure about how much teeth cleaning is though.

I take my dog to Long and asked for a quote, as my dog is due for a cleaning as well.

They told me that their estimate varies by size of the dog due to the amount of anesthesia required, as well as if the animal has any other health concerns. I don't recall the exact figure, but I do remember it being much less than what I paid when we lived in the DC area.

Here's Long's phone number if you want to give them a call: (704) 523-2996

Most vets will require an exam before cleaning the teeth, due to being under anestheia, also to check their mouth to see IF they really need it, and if there are any teeth that may need to be extracted. At that exam they should be able to give you an estimate. Most of the cost for a dental is the time they are under anestheia. If you are in the north (Mallard Creek/Univ area) call Mallard Creek Animal Hospital on Ben Craig Dr. 704-717-7878.

Those are great suggestions...thank you! I made the mistake of not starting teeth brushing when my dog was a puppy so now it's virtually impossible. However, I will say that Petco does teeth brushing as part of their grooming services.
