Anyone able to comment on the mold discovered in some neighboring homes in Hunter Oaks in 2/06? We have looked in there to buy and just wanted some feedback. Thanks in advance!

Thank you very much for your response! The problem was DISCOVERED in '06, not necessarily in homes BUILT in '06. I am just wondering if there was ever a follow-up to that story.

Nothing came of the mold issue because there is no issue.!!!! I live in one of those houses and there is no mold or any moisture in our crawl space. Ryland treated the crawl spaces and the homes sold in record time. I have three kids and do you think I would live in a home that has mold? We have an industiral humdidifer in the crawl space and I would bet money that our crawl space is cleaner and drier than any crawl space you will find in Hunter Oaks! With the heat and humidity here in Charlotte every home should have one!

I was the inspector who uncovered the mold issues; see the WCNC story "home sick home part 3". For the handful of homes I was in it was very real and saddening. For months I saw several people suffer adverse health effects. Often times mold is overblown, but I’ve also seen it make people quite ill. Mold problems can develop in any building with water problems; it is not street, neighborhood, or target specific. I have not been in those homes in almost 2 years so I cannot comment on the remediation efforts, but almost any mold issue can be remediated. I have also inspected (structurally, mechanically, and environmentally) numerous other homes in Hunter Oaks. I believe it is a very good neighborhood. Please do not ask me to comment on the specific homes beyond what I’ve already stated to the public, the last I knew some of the law suits were still in progress.

Inspector Paul, can I contact you to get your opinion on how to prevent mold growth in a crawl space?
