Guys,

With the economy in the tank, unemployment on the rise, and Charlotte taking a direct hit due to it's large banking presence, how do you guys find that local restaurants are fairing in areas North of Charlotte like Huntersville, Cornelius, Mooresville, etc? Are you seeing any go out of business or do you know anyone in the business that's having problems compared to 12-18 months ago?

I haven't seen any go out of business in Cornelius. The only place that went under was the International Cafe. It was supposed to be Greekish, but the food was absolutely horrid and it quickly got a bad reputation. Other than that, they seem to all be getting by O.K. Here on the lake, Fall, Spring, and Winter are the busiest times for bars and restaurants. People seem to go to the lake and then home to BBQ in the summer.

There are definitely several that have closed in the last year in the Lake Norman area.

My wife and I dine out fairly often. We've noticed a large dropoff in the size of crowds. We don't have to wait for tables as often and when we do, the wait seems shorter. Also, we've noticed a lot less families out having dinner, which makes restaurants quieter and more pleasant for couples!

the restaurants are dropping like flies (no pun intended) in the Lincolnton/Denver area. Definitely no lines/no waiting either.

Anyone that tells you that restaurants aren't suffering in the Lake Norman area isn't telling you the truth!
