I need to have my hardwoods refinished. While I heard about the wonders of "dustless" hardwood refinishing on TV, I have not seen any such services advertised locally. Is any aware of contractors who offer this service in South CLT?

The main franchise I've heard of is Mr. Sandless. They do have locations around Charlotte, I got an over-the-phone rough estimate but haven't decided if I'm going to do it yet.

Not sure if you've read about the dustless refinishing yet, but I suggest doing some research first so you aren't ripped off/unhappy with the results. The places like Mr. Sandless don't refinish your floors completely (well, they can, but then you'd be better off with a regular refinisher). They do floor screening which essentially just takes off the clear coats, wax, dirt, and a tiny bit of wood and then reseal them. They will be the same color as before, look a lot smoother, but deep scratches won't come out. Supposedly it makes the floor look how it looks when it's wet and is a LOT cheaper/quicker.

There are also regular places that do a full sanding, these won't be "dustless" per se, but if you get a good company with the right equipment supposedly the dust can be kept to a minimum.

If you end up having it done, please let me know how it goes! We're on the fence, house probably isn't worth having complete refinishing but not sure if the $800 for Mr. Sandless will give any results.

We used Mr Sandless. They do a great job, the floor looked great. The primary difference between sandless and sanding is that the floor imperfections remain. they dont sand the floors smooth, only remove the poly finish. We used them to get a new finish on the floor to sell the house. quick and inexpensive.

I can guarantee you that there is no such thing as 100% dust free floor sanding operations. Yes there are plenty of great dust control systems, but none are 100% efficient.

No matter what the company claims, have them mask off any areas with painters plastic & tape that you don't want dust in including kitchen cabinets.

It's that simple.

we used a company to sand and refinish our floors.
they used the dust free floor sander , it totally works , cuts down a good 80/90 % on the dust.
yes , do still mask off area with plastic but it truly does work better than the old machines.
i believe out floor refinisher told us that the machine runs about $ 5000 so a lot of places might not have them.
