Mount Holly would be the best choice. However, Belmont's south point area has the best schools and are fast growing areas. You get more house for your money in Gaston County. The traffic is very heavy too, however, it can take 30 mintues to travel down a local street in Charlotte which is rather crowded too.

Good Luck with your search. Gaston County uses local neighborhood schools and has no choice plan. You get the school that serves your neighborhood, so your kid might be next to crack heads kids and there's nothing you can do about it. It's very deceptive. Check out every school and their state testing scores before you sign on the line for a house.

Good Luck. I'd be happy to speak privately about this.
Schools zones in east and SE Gastonia are very good.

Belmont over Union County ANY day of the week. Union County is fine, but commute into Charlotte can be a bear. Commute from Belmont to Charlotte even during rush hour is probably 20-25 minutes. Belmont is growing and is a very nice suburb with good schools!

We've been thinking of moving to Charlotte for awhile now and a friend who lives in Belmont offered to rent us her extra space to alleviate our move. I just have some questions (neither of us have ever lived south of Philadelphia)

1. We are an interracial couple. Would that be an issue in Belmont and/or Charlotte?
2. We are both restaurant workers (kitchen). Could we get jobs in the Belmont/Charlotte area easily and are there many upscale places to eat?
3. Does Belmont itself have a large center of town and if so what types of businesses are there?

Thanks,
Voilalaura

Belmont is a small city about like same of the boroughs in South Jersey. There are several restaurants in Belmont. Check out Old Stone Steakhouse. Old Stone Steakhouse Also check Nick's Steak & Taphouse in Gastonia. Prime Rib Steak & Seafood BBQ Bar Family Restaurant | Gastonia Same owner as Old Stone Steakhouse.
