Please tell me about Matthews
Matthews seems to have good housing prices and is close to where my husband will be working. Please tell me about it! Curious about your thoughts, anything I should know, etc. Is it a nice place to live? Good access to restaurants/shops? From just looking at Google Maps, it looks like it's not too bad of a drive to old town, etc. But who knows, I've never been to Charlotte.
Thank you!

I like living in Matthews. There are several different restaurants with varying cusines in and around the "old town" area. There are a lot of the chain stores nearby (Lowe's, Home Depot, etc) and there is a really neat old hardware place in old town. They have roosters in the back and sell all sorts of seeds, trees and other random things.
I live on the side of town near Mint Hill and my commute to Uptown is not bad at all. Ususally takes about 25 minutes for 13 miles of driving. There are some parts of town that have worse traffic than others, though.
Once you determine an area you like, you can call the Police Department and they can give you crime stats for that area.

My Aunt is a VP at one of the banks and has lived in Matthews for 2 decades. They love it.

i don't live there anymore but it was nice. its real close to charlotte, has a ton of restaurants and things that you could go to...
i could see how a person that lived there not going to charlotte for anything at all except to go to southpark mall.
you'll like it. its pretty in the spring and summer time. especially the spring...oh and the fall.
you need a car, though. definitely. i'm assuming that you already have one.

I love Matthews. If I had my way we'd be living there instead of where we are now.

I live in Matthews, and there are a lot of nice things about this area. We have a small but quaint real homey downtown street, with a decent library and a few good restaurants. It's a very convenient area - 10 minutes in one direction is Charlotte, 10 in the other are corn and cows. It's not too congested. Shopping is very plentiful in this area, but tends more toward national brands rather than small businesses. Presby hospital is right here and provides excellent care, and lots of good medical providers are here for close proximity. I do wish we had a real park. If you need more specifics I am happy to help, just let me know :-)

Matthews
Matthews also has a really good Community Center that offers all types of classes for children and adults. They also offer live theatre and dance.
Stumptown Park has outdoor concerts, music, movies, etc.
Matthews also is home to MATTHEWS ALIVE which runs Labor Day weekend.
It is a lot of fun. A parade, music, rides for the kids, food, arts and crafts, etc
Town of Matthews (will give you lots of info)

Matthews also has a Costco!!! Which is huge. I don't live there but everytime I have been I thought it looked like a great place to live. It seems like it still has that small town feel with the benefits of city life. Lots of stores, restaurants but still cute neighborhoods, etc. We live in the University area and the drive to Matthews is always very pleasant. Hardly any traffic, even on the weekends. I am sure it would be easy access to the city or other events. If we didn't work in North Charlotte, Matthews would be our choice to live.
