Jim, I am trying to send you a direct message but for some reason I can not do that on you. (?).

The Mooresville Lowes has good Italian bread, usually from a bakery in Parsippany NJ. Now I read in our local paper here we're getting a Lowes in 2010, which would be wonderful. They have the best quality food and vegetables. And yes, the higher prices.
I keep meaning to get to the Lowes in Gastonia...

Ingles is beating the pants off Food Lion around here. You'll be pleasantly surprised by the prices & the selection in the supermarkets.

So far, the only place that I've found frying peppers & a couple of odds & ends are in the Compare Foods on W. Franklin in Gastonia.

The Dallas Ingles also has the gas pumps. You can grab a gift card inside & put money on it to use at the pumps. That gets you a 3 cent discount per gallon on your gas. It won't make you or break you, but for the long haul, it adds up.

I'm the only transplant in my neighborhood, too.

Let me say for the record, I'm not knocking anyone's religious beliefs whatsoever. I think we would have fared better had we ended up in a mixed subdivision like you're in ssd3. But it's an okay place to live. We're headed up to the RDU area to check that out and see if the grass is greener, lol. There are more places to work and a lot more transplants than in this area. Will let you know how it goes.
Where you chose to move, there just aren't a lot of transplants. Depending on where you are, Lincoln and Gaston Counties are not very popular areas for transplants. Belmont and Mt. Holly in Gaston and Denver/Lake Norman parts of Lincoln seem to be the more popular areas with a mix of people. The Charlotte area has just as many transplants as Raleigh. However, it is all about location. If you go to Raleigh and choose to move to a remote area outside of it, you will most likely have the same experience.

If you are unhappy where you currently are and want to stay in the Charlotte area, (I'm assuming you prefer a slightly rural feel) I'd suggest Union County, Southern Iredell County/Lake Norman, Denver/Lake Norman part of Lincoln County, Concord in Cabarrus County, and Northern York County SC.

Well, you have a point, but it's not the town, it's that he bought in an older established neighborhood. I did the same. My neighbors (apartments & single family homes) are mostly life-long residents of Kings Mountain. A couple of miles away in the new housing my neighbors would be mostly transplants.

ssd3 - the options for PM are off, that's why you weren't able to PM me.

295 - I did hit the Ingles. Asked the guys restocking the bread about the Viera bread - they both looked at me like I'd sprouted another head. But the Ingles has good prices and good selection on a lot of stuff, so I signed up for their card. Last time I was in Dallas in that area there was no Ingles. I think that area was all trees?

The Lowes in Gastonia is not as good as the one in Mooresville, IMO. Just doesn't seem as clean as the one in Mooresville. The one in Mooresville has Anthony's Italian bread from NJ. But I don't always want to drive into MVL. So I head out to our local Spanish bakery here in Lincolnton. Their bread is not the same, but similar enough to Italian bread that we do like it occasionally.

And yes, since we bought into an older, established subdivision this is why we are somewhat isolated, although we didn't anticipate such a big difference. We we first moved here, we were originally supposed to live in Mooresville, but a house deal fell through.

Headed up to RDU. Have a nice weekend all!

Hey Jim,

Ask the store manager about the Viera rolls. Kings Mountain has them, so Dallas can get them. Kings Mountain also has loaves of artisan bread in the bakery. I think that the Dallas store opened in March or April. There are 2 Food Lions in Kings Mountain & both could fit in the Kings Mountain Ingles with plenty of space left over.

I'm also in an older established neighborhood, but the neighbors are nice enough. I bought a foreclosure that had been empty for 5 years, so maybe they're just relieved.

Have a good trip.

A little late but, it was good to get away.

We ate at a nice steakhouse. http://www.angusbarn.com/index.htm

We went to a small museum - The Country Doctor Museum - pretty neat. http://www.countrydoctormuseum.org/

We also saw comedian Johne Pinete (the guy was even more hilarious in person) at Charlie Goodnights (comedy club) - http://www.goodnightscomedy.com/about.htm

That's about it. The grass is not always greener. It was a nice area of NC, but it made us appreciate the house we have in the neighborhood we live in right now. There's definitely not better in the Raleigh area in the same price range, that's for sure. Was a learning experience in many ways.

I'm glad the trip worked for you.

I went to check out the Lowes Foods in Gastonia. They must have cleaned up their act.

I did notice that their bakery had artisan bread from Ace. Pathmark carries that line along with their own.

295 - It's been awhile since I've gone to the Lowes in Gastonia. I'll have to check it out again. I'm just programmed now to head out to Mooresville, lol.
