I just had Tom Michael at Fu's touch up my half-sleeve that he did for me. They are in NoDa now, right on N. Davidson St. next to the Beet Gallery and directly across from Cabo Fish Taco.
IMO, you really want to shop the artist more than the shop itself. NC regulates tattoo shops at the state level and all 3 that I've been in here in Charlotte have been plenty clean.
Price and reputation comes down to the individual artist in most shops, based on my experience.
Ace Custom Tattoo in Plaza Midwood by far. All you have to do is go into the place to see all of the awards that they have won. My husband and I just got huge pieces done by Chris Stuart. Rodney Raines has a long waiting list. Skinny Bagwell does awesome black and grey. Chris color work is great. You can find Chris on Myspace to look at his portfolio - it's got a lot more work up there then their website does. Go ask the girls at VisArt Video on 7th St. They have a lot of ink.
