Krisia will become famous soon enough
When I moved to Charlotte I was told stories horror stories about Colonel Davidson's grave. The headstone apparently says that he died in the 1800's and "re-entered" in the 1960(?)'s.

I finally visited the grave site with my brave companions. The headstone shows the "re-entered" date, but strangely spelled it as reinterred. Interred means buried. Don't fall for that one...

Do you know more about this house other than the fact that it was used before the Civil War as a plantation house? What sort of first hand knowledge do you have? Do you know if anyone lives there now or is it more or less abandoned?

Our group is based in Gastonia right now. G.P.R.G. - short for Gilbert Paranormal Research Group - is a nonprofit organization we started a little over a year ago to further our own knowledge of the paranormal as well as try to help others find answers to the things that they cannot understand. We DO NOT charge ANYTHING ANYWHERE for our services and our members are on a strict volunteer basis ONLY. We do accept donations of any kind however most, if not all, funding does come out of our own pockets. My title is Investigator & Case Researcher - I investigate cases that we deem necessary or interesting as well as research and find out all that I can on that case, location, history, etc.

gman6974:

I'm not sure yet what I make of the Devil's Tramping Ground... I've heard about it here and there over the years growing up but unless I could see something like that for myself... Legends have been spilled countlessly about this place - "it's home to the devil where he walks in circles of a night spilling his evil deeds into the world..." - I don't believe it. Also, numerous stories say that nothing will grow in the circle however in a photo I looked at ( http://deviljazz.tripod.com/dtgr.jpg )... is that not grass growing patchily? Nevertheless... I'd like to go one day.

I have some stories. Tell me what you think:

When I was in college we went to a place outside of Charlotte that was supposedly haunted. Rumor has it that a lady and her daughter had car trouble and they got out to push their car and they were both hit and killed by another car. So now if you take your car there, put it in neutral, they will push your car. When I went it was at night. The car really did move. When I turned around to see if I could see anything, we immediately stopped. Then we turned around and went back again. They pushed our car again. I'm not sure if it was paranormal activity or if it was gravitational pull or what. It was freaky though. The strange thing is, the road was pretty flat. Then all of a sudden in a middle we stopped and wouldn't go anymore, like as soon as I turned around we immediately stopped.

************************************************** *********************

I spent the night at a friend's house and woke up in the middle of the night and felt a cold breeze. The windows were closed. Then I saw a white sphere in my room. It wasn't scary or anything but I could feel a presence. I just thought it was a dream or thought I was just seeing things. You know how it is in the night when you can just see things in the dark. I just couldn't figure out where the cold breeze was coming from. It was during the fall so it wasn't hot or cold. The AC wasn't on. A couple of days later, I mentioned something about it to my friend's housekeeper and she said my friend's brother said he had the same thing happen that same night. I asked her if she knew of any paranormal activity and she said she had never experienced it at their house but that my friend's brother told her a similar story to what I said. I never told my friend about it and I never discussed it with her brother because I didn't want them to think I was a freak.

************************************************** *********************

I'm not sure whether Ouija boards really work but this is what happened. My friends and I decided to play with a Ouija board in my dorm room when I was in college. I thought it was silly and didn't believe in that type of stuff. We supposedly talked to a not-so-friendly spirit. Anyway, later that night I suddenly woke up and saw a black blob hovering above me. I tried to scream and move but I was totally paralyzed and I couldn't scream or move. I have never been so scared in my life. Then I saw it change shapes into a bat-like creature and it finally disappeared. As soon as I could move I turned on the lights and TV and ran down the hall to my friend's room. The next day I was tired from lack of sleep so I took a nap. During my nap, I had a dream and that same demon appeared like it was taking over me and I suddenly woke up and saw it plain as day in my dorm room. Again, I was paralyzed and couldn't move or scream. So, that night I slept with the TV on and it happened again. The demon was back. I'm not religious or anything but I prayed and prayed and prayed for it to go away and for God to protect me and I tried to scream at it to leave and to never return ever again and I was so paralyzed and couldn't scream at all so I had to think really hard. I was so scared. So then I asked one of my friends what to do and she said I could get a Catholic priest to come and spinkly holy water in my room and perform some ritual to make it go away. I was like no way I'm not Catholic. So then, she said to buy as many black candles as possible and to burn them all around my dorm room. Black candles would absorb the negative energy. She also suggested that I burn sage incense because that would cleanse the space. Luckily it was right after Halloween so black candles were super cheap. I tried both and it felt very silly but I was desperate. I also shouted at the demon to leave and never come back because it didn't belong here and that it had to leave. I slept with the candles burning too. I burned them all day while I was in the room and all night. Yeah, not safe I know but I did keep my eye on them. Oh well. At least the demon never returned. I looked it up on the internet and there was a similar story posted. I don't know if it was just a bunch of nightmares or if it was an actual demon but whatever it was, it felt so real and cold and I haven't had it happen since. I think it was real.

Shelly. I have tried to recall its location and have hit a dead end but the story is true. In the late 60s when I was about 12 my aunt bought an old plantation house located near Lilesville/rockingham .The price was very low . Shorty after moving in my older cousin told me they were hearing "noises" and things at night which scared them. Soon some of the decendants of the original owners (house built in early 1800s ) asked my aunt to sell it to them to restore, She said no and shortly my aunt was killed in a one car accident on a country road. Then in a short period of time the original family asked my dead aunts daughter if she would sell it and she said no. Within a year the daughter also died in a one car wreck at the same spot on the same road. A news service wanted to run some storys on this house. Evidently it had some prior ghost history. The Family was then able to buy it back....true story. the house was still there 2 or 3 years ago because a distant cousin knew of it.This cousin is very old and trying to reach him would be very hard and really not appropriate .I feel like others from the area know of this house.

The first story - about the bridge - is WIDELY known to a lot of people. I've heard numerous stories about this and while I have always wanted to go there and see for myself what activity occurred, I could never get a straight answer to where EXACTLY this bridge was located. It's also said that if you sprinkle some sort of white powder - flour, baby powder, etc. - on the back of your car, after the movement you can get out and see hand prints on your car. The original story - or at least the stories I've been told - were about a young woman and her baby were going home one night and their car broke down at the top of a hill. The woman got out of the car, placed the baby in a carriage or stroller, and started walking for help. The car lost it's brakes and started rolling down the hill towards the woman and baby, hitting them and killing them. It's said that now, if you go there, you can see this young woman and if you stop your car at the bottom of the hill, she will push it back to the top. You can also hear a baby crying or something. It's hard to distinguish between the countless "cry baby bridge" stories that circulate.

The second story was interesting. A white sphere? Was it hovering or stationary? My first reaction was to say that you were disoriented from just waking up and the light was most likely a reflection of some light or object on the wall or ceiling, wherever you saw it, and the breeze a cold chill. Nonetheless, if sphere was nothing like I said and you felt this breeze and your friend's brother had the exact same experience... There is a good possibility that whatever was in the room with you that night could have been paranormal in nature.

The last story...

Personally, I never once believed in Ouija boards. I don't believe in demons or devils or whatnot of that sort. I do, however, believe that there can be malevolent spirits out there that mean more harm than good and the more I read up on Ouija boards as of late, the more I am fighting with the beliefs of whether or not these boards are more a way of opening a sort of portal or wormhole to allow something through that shouldn't be here.

When my mother was young, she played with one of these boards. My family - grandmother, aunts, and uncles as well as my mother - were always hesitant and edgy with speaking of the incidents that followed. Supposedly, if I remember correctly, my mother began to see things and hallucinate. They all said that she became, "stuck in a cave" and couldn't get out. My mother was around the age of 16 at the time, I think. I assume it means her head was swarming with black images, black thoughts, seeing darkness and shadows and not being able to get them to go away. The subject was always changed upon saying such things, though...

My understanding is that the Ouija Board is sold by Parker Brothers along with games such as Monopoly and Trivial Pursuit. Which would indicate that children would use this "talking board" all throughout the world and cause no harm that anyone is aware of. It's said that the piece known as the "planchette" is used by spirits to spell out answers to questions asked by the participants. There are many explanations posed of why and how the planchette moves. The one that I am fond of states that, " Users subconsciously direct the path of the triangle to produce a word that is in that person's subconscious thought process. This subconscious behavior is known as ideomotor action, a term coined by William Carpenter in 1882. It is also known as automatism.[6] Some people may be convinced that the "powers" of the ouija board are real because they are unaware that they are in fact moving the piece and therefore assume that the piece must be moving due to some other "spiritual force". The subconscious thought process may produce an answer that is different from what the user expected in their conscious thought process—thus perpetuating the idea that the board has "mystical powers"." (Wikipedia)

Which leads me to believe and answer your story... If you used a Ouija board, knowing the full effects of what could be "produced" or "brought into this world" from somewhere else, who is to say that what you witnessed was not entirely your imagination or subconscious acting out what you assumed or thought might very well occur? Perhaps your subconscious assumed or imagined that by supposedly speaking to evil spirits and possibly pulling them from another dimension, you would play host to one? Therefore, your mind conceived the "demon" and brought it to life through fears that you didn't recognize beforehand. You mentioned that it was around Halloween - a time of fears, dreads, worst nightmares... You also mentioned that you took a nap and dreamed of it only to see it when you woke up - your mind playing tricks on you? Your fear of this... thing - whatever it might have been - could easily fuel it's ability to be there before your eyes. In other words, you are feeding it through fearing it. I always tell others - don't be afraid of what you don't know - embrace it and control it.

Thank you so much for sharing your stories with me. I really enjoyed reading them and I apologize if my answers were not satisfactory. Perhaps, if nothing else, you can obtain a sense of peace at the thought that perhaps everything you experienced was not something that was out to hurt you...
